Last year, my friend bought me a PLEXTOR 712A from Japan.
At that moment, I got some good quality DVD+R for testing, however, it’s not finished, as I was too busy...
The recording industry changes with each passing day.
2 weeks ago, I bought a BENQ 1640, which owns the highest spec DVD burner.
Let’s see them both at the same time.
First, PLEXTOR 712A
Packing looks very heavy

Next, BENQ 1640
Package is smaller, even smaller than 800A.

The accessories only include CD, simple manual and warranty card.
As cheap burner time, we can understand this.

What I learned:
712A
Good
1.Low noise
2.Firmware is very stable
3.Burnning quality as usual
4.PLEXTOOLS powerful utilities
4.8MB buffer
Bad
1.Not made in Japan
2.Price too high
1640
Good
1.Special radiator design
2.Lower price
3.Made in Malaysia
4.Highest spec till now
5.Low noise
6. 1640 OEM for 754A. The quality should be good.
7.Burnning quality is great
Bad
1.Less accessories (Low price burner effect)
2.Firmware is not stable. (BENQ is advanced in firmware modification. They still have great room to improve.)
There is no good or bad.
Different time, different price and different position.
Depending on personal like.
PS2:
This test is overview only.
There are so many CD and DVD discs in the market and I didn’t test –R, only test +R and CD-R for reference.
