Hey,
Any recommendations on a power supply to get that is available throughout Canada? I am looking to power my new setup which isnt going to require much at the moment but want 500+W PSU for it so that I dont have to upgrade later on down the road. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Luke

is there any place to get pc power and cooling without ordering off of their website?? would get hit with duties etc getting one that way.... OCZ seems to be a favourite...

PPC is overrated, if you want a monster PC, it's more effective to build one from a larger server supply. The OCZ will do everything you want, they have support in Canada (Markham) and their customer service is second to none. Save yourself the hassle. Just my opinion.

You have to go for what you need.
OCZ only has 1 pci-e connector.

So is the ocz 520adj recommended for overclocking more than the ocz 520w modstream? If there almost exactly the same then I would think the modstream would be better as it is completely sleeved and modular.

Nope, other than the convenience part(sleeved, easy cable management), the powerstream 520 is better than the 520 modstream in means of performance. I recommend the 520 powerstream. ;)

I have a pcp&c 510 sli deluxe and it has handled everything I have thrown at. I am sure the 850 is better but it is still way over priced. They both have the same wiring harness as far as I know.

I have a OCZ 600w Powerstream, and have been having issues with it since upgrading the video cards in my system.
I am running:
DFI NF4 UT SLI-DR
FX55 @ 3.1 MHz (1.61v)
1GB Mushkin Redline XP4000 @ 3.3v (feeding off the 3v line)
(2) XFX 7800GTX's @ 470/1300
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
(2) Hitachi 160GB SATA2 drives in RAID0
(2) NEC DVD-RW/DL drives
3.5" Floppy
DD D5 pump
(3) Panaflo Medium Speed 120mm fans
(3) low speed 120mm fans
Fan controller
OCZ 600w PowerStream PSU
All the above is BARELY running. Runs fine @ 2d, but as soon as I throw in Aquamark or 3D Mark 01 SE in SLI, the computer wants to turn itself off. If I run in non SLI mode, works fine. The problem was even worse when I have my 3 high speed Panaflo's on the radiator. Just noticed on THG (a site which I hate btw), there PowerStream 600w just died after hitting 588w doing the same thing mine does! Didn't want to revert back to a PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI because of the fan noise, but I just ordered 1.
Hopefully the PC P&C 510 SLI will fix the dropouts. Really a pain in the butt to thinking that the #'s OCZ publishes would be able to handle my system without a hiccup. Adjusting the rails doesn't help either.

Sparkle FSP550-60PLG, OCZ Powerstream 520w, Seasonic S12 or PC P&C 510. Take your pick.

PC Power & Cooling 510 series is the best for quality and realiability. However, I am not sure of any stores in Canada have it.
The best alternative is the OCZ powerstream series. Should be easier to find in Canada.
I don't suggest buying anything above 600w, as the cost is not worth it. I have yet to see anyone use more than this amount of power.

to be exact, $470 :D
I hope to finish my new rig by next week..
Tried cranking up the 12v rail a bit? or does that make things worse?

If it helps I am going to be running the following so it wont be a huge power sucker
1. ASUS A8N-SLI PREMIUM
2. AMD 3500+ S939
3. ATI X800XL PCI-X
4. PLEXTOR PX716A
5. ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU
6. 2-4 HDD'S 250+GB
I have heard mixed things about the powerstream (high failure rate). I would prefer a power supply that is quiet and something that is easily available to Canada so PCP is probably out... Have heard good things about the Antec NeoPower as well... Havnt heard much about them on these forums though.. Maybe all hype and no performance?

Tried that! Made it defintely worse! I even swapped back to running my Redlines off the 5v rail, and lowering the 3.3v rail back down from 3.65 to 3.3. As soon as the supply gets heated up, boink, she shuts off the minute I throw a graphic intense program at it.
I was going to go with the Silverstone 650w supply, but I couldn't get a definitive answer on whether or not the 3v rail had an externally adjustable pot. I know the 12v and 5v rails are adjustable to a degree, but every thing I read leads me to believe the 3.3v rail insn't adjustable without doing a sense mod.
What I have been thinking about today is adding a 2nd Panaflo 80mm to the rear of the PC P&C 510 SLI to hopefully add more airflow to get the noise down from that Delta screamer in their!

Have you even used OCZ? I'd like to see you back that up.
U know its too good for your rig.

A Fortron AX500-A would be more then enough for your system.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=14069&vpn=AX500-A&manufacture=FSP%20GROUP%20USA
The Seasonic is another good choice, but a little on the expensive side and the Fortron is not loud at all really.
Noise level was also of no concern. FSP Group can rest assured that they have put together a product that can comfortably be used in a silent-PC environment, as the 120 mm fan was basically inaudible at anywhere past 10 centimeters. I actually had to get my head right up close to the fan to hear its faint whirring.

it was more in the form of a question... not a statement... trying to find something that will work... i know ocz is a good brand but i have heard that the powerstream have high failure rate... maybe just happened to talk to the only people that had a failure :)

I am building a new rig that will consist of the following
A64 X2 4400+ (hopefully at 2.7ghz!)
4gb PC3200
DFI NF4 SLI-DR
7800 GTX in SLI
Promise PCI-Express SATA raid(500mhz intel xoscale cpu)
4 250gb 16mb cache Western Digital Sata 2 drives
1x WD 74gb Raptor
2x 16x DL-DVDRW
Sweetspot video capture card
Will the PCP&C 510w SLI be able to handle that rig? or is there a better alternative(I am also in canada)

OCZ is overrated. If you're talking Modstream, forget that stuff. Antec beats OCZ in voltage regulation ANY DAY. Go read SPCR. Furthermore, OCZ is more noisy than Antec.
If you're fine with OCZ's voltage regulation like me, then Seasonic will kick @$$ cuz of the quietness.
But I don't get why everyone recommends OCZ. It's just overrated.
Powerstream is loud. I still prefer my 600W Seasonic.
ive got a powerstream thats replacing some of the stuff in my rig....im getting a pc pnc 850 going in my new rig in that case.....disregard the sig...i have to fix that :D
