I am going to upgrade to 2x1gb of ram that are going to go into a vnf3-250 mobo with a max vdimm of 2.9v. This system will have an amd64 3400 NC and will be used primarily for video and audio editing/encoding. Secondary use is gaming. I am looking at several memory modules and I was wanting a recommedation on these. They are in my price range and low enough in vdimm requirement to allow some overclocking. Here they are:
Gigaram PC3700

Gigaram PC3500

Crucial OEM PC3200

PQI Turbo

Rosewill

Patriot
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220045
These are all in my price range of around $250-$265 for the max. I will be running either a 12x multi @ 216 or 11x multi @ 236. This maximizes the 3400 in terms of raw cpu. I would like to have as tight timings on the memory as possible at either of these 2 clocks and preferrable at 1T. Right now I am leaning towards either the gigaram pc3700 or the patriot.

Let the database be your guide... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67762

I looked there and only saw 1 entry on the patriot, one on the pqi and one on the crucial value. Most of it is the ballistix. Have you heard anything about the rosewill or either of the gigaram modules?

Negative on the Gigaram and Rosewill

The ballistix is just binned value ram so you can expect similar, usually slightly less, out of them as compared to the ballistix.

First thing you need to do is find out what memory chips are on the ram that you have to choose from. Then look at the database for those chips.
Rosewell (I beleive) are relabled PQI for sale as Newegg's house brand.
The Crucial would be my first choice if they have the Micron -5B D chips

I do believe the 3700 Gigaram used Micron as well.

Well I have stricken the gigaram off of the list. I guess it is a toss up now between the pqi, patriot and the crucial. The patriot has tighter timings but the pqi and crucial will do a higher htt speed.

i say PQI. i've used a 1gb dual channel kit (2x512) and 2x512mb bought separately and put together. all were rated at 2.5-4-4-7 @ DDR400 but they easily did 2-3-2-x. so the moral is, take PQI's latency ratings with a grain of sugar ;)
but do what Major said. find out what chips they all use. if you can't...PQI.

Any of you know if this patriot memory will oc higher than the tighter 1GB sticks that I linked at the top?

I'm going through the exact same situation right now,
I'm stuck on whther to get the Pqi 2GB kit or the Patriot 2GB kit
Do the CAS timings really matter that much with a newer A64 ?

My crucial value runs about 240, thankfully with 3-3-3-8. Far as long term testing I was running it 236 and playing BF2 everyday. :D Cpu was 260*10. With mem at cpu/11=236, so they seem to work nicely with dividers as well. I only say used to because my new cpu has my mem running a bit slower for cpu sweet spot. Micron 5b-D of course. Some Ballistix will really scream past this, but I also know if I got some Ballistix like the 2*1gb roundup or my friend got I'd be dissapointed. My bud's don't tighten well and he doesnt want to go under 250, so he runs 260 3-4-4. I on the other hand havenn't even tested that because I don't care unless it gets me 25MHz. A lot of balistix really rule, but mine were a good value. I think most of the values didn't make the cut. A gem of a value set might do 250 3-3-3 it appears on the forums, but thats probably jack for a lot of Ballistix.
That roundup was kinda weird though. I think it was Mushkin blue which usually uses infineon doing much better than usual, and then the Ballistix failed to meet there reputation. Like they say I guess, it's just a sample.
Here's that one anyway

If I had to do it again I'd do the same. Just dont want to pay 2X. I'm bailing out until DDRII. Hopefully I mean it this time! I thought my fantastic Gskill would be my last but it's only a gig. They actually have a new set out with gig sticks/value. Check them out too.
