On my Athlon XP 1900, F@H results in a CPU temp of 61 C! Without F@H, the CPU temp is 55 C. I am running the console version of F@H 3.24 in the background as a service using Firedaemon. Has anyone observed similar behavior?

Specs:
Athlon XP 1900+
TT Volcano 9 HSF
256 MB PC2700 Samsung
2 case fans
GF4 MX 440
Win XP Pro

Under the F@H config, it is set to idle, CPU util 100%.

So you mean running my CPU @ 100 % makes it run hotter than running it at Idle 0%. Who would've thought it would run hotter??

Conclusions 55C at idle sucks. But only a 6C between full load and idle is actually very good. If you were starting in the 30c range.

I bought one of the volcano'syour using to try it out. It sucked on a p4 and on the AMD i was not impressed. Around $30 i'll stick with an alpha or SK7. You'll get 10c cooler than your current for the same $$$'s

But as long as it's stable who cares about the temps. My dual xp2000 rig is running @ 1850mhz each. With 2 cheap g68's from SVC. $5 80mm heatsinks. And they are @ 65 celsius. But they are stable so it doesnt matter about the temps.

As long as it works it doesnt matter. Unless temps are holding you back.

Pimp!

well i just (installing win2k sp3)setup a system without a case with the coolermaster hhc-001 and a 1600+ (not o/ced)

running on mobo cardboard box, need to sort something out tomorrow, like somehow getting airflow under mobo

idle is ~49 celcius (no thermal grease)

jumps to 54 doing f@h

Thanks for the input guys,

I am not worried about the high temps with the Volcano 9. The only reason I got it is cuz you can control the fan temp and it was pretty cheap ($30 cdn).

I am just surprised at the jump in temp for a program that uses wasted CPU cycles. The temps are holding me back from overclocking, but it's not a big deal since it's my parents computer.

Hopefully a few more days of arctic silver 3 burn in will bring the temps down so I can overclock the 1900+ to 2200+.

Well what yea gotta keep in mind is that even though its only using your 'idle' cpu cycles, your computer is using all its power.
Since its being fully used, its gonna heat it up.

If you really want to test temps out some, check out toast. Its a program thats supposed to be designed to raise your temps up.

I was talking about your temps :)

if you have 55°C at idle

then 61°C at load is normal :)

I have my 2400+ in 1 rig right now under a cheap cooler & its running 65c full load(temp from internal diode) perfectly stable. If its stable you're fine ;)
