I'd really like to play w/ one of the new cheetah 15k scsi drives but I have no idea how it will fly if I put it in a rig I'm overclocking heavily. My plan was to sell my 8k3a+ along w/ some other hardware and get an 8rda+ that is supposed to have pci lock. Can I still expect to run high fsb's or not be hindered by it in any other way?
it all depands on what card u get...
something likeAdaptec cards realy hate overclocked PCI bus...
where as the tekram ones don`t mind a mild oc...
my LSI megaraid express 500 don`t mind PCI oc.....
GOD.....:)

my LSI u160 scsi has gone as high as 190fsb. i tryed 200, and my bios loaded all jacked. But thats as high as ive tested.
dont get anything related to Adaptec. They just suck.
Intel/LSI/Ami are good.

Hmm, I was just thinking, if I had a controller card that was also compatible w/ 64 bit/66 mhz pci, then I wouldn't have any problems right? :D

nap they when u use a 64bit PCI card in a 32bit pci then it will only run at 32bit...
there fore only will run at 33MHz...

The only boards I know that support 64bits PCI bus are duallies...not a lot of overcloking options there...

just because they run at 32bit doesn't mean they run at 33mhz ;)
there are 32/64 cards out there

I've been using an Adaptec 2940UW with 2 quantum 10KII and a seagate cheetah on it for all of my overclocking adventures. I used to run it all the time on my Shuttle AK31 w/ AXP 1600+ running a 163 bus (so 40.75 pci clock) and never had any errors related to it. Now I'm running it in my new setup with A7V333 but at a 166-173 bus, but this board has the 1/5 pci divider, and have nto had any problems.
merow.
