Ive gone through the stickies and did some searching and from what ive seen the results folks are posting with are with A64 setups. Unfortunately im rather poor and my upgrade cycles tend to be much longer (2-3years for mobo/cpu).
Currently Im still using an unlocked Barton 2500 and a Abit NF7-S. The release of BF2 has facilitated the need for 1GB of ram. This next ram upgrade will be the ram I use for my eventual jump to A64. The goal I had in mind was 9x250FSB 2-2-2-11 1T. With this goal in mind Im hoping to get some opinions on what memory has a better chance of helping me hit my goal, TCCD or UTT.
I do know that I will need a new bios. I havent settled on one yet. I know theres a million of them out there Im just an indecisive person and theres a lot of options out there. I also know the NB needs to be cooled better. Ive gone ahead and lapped and AS5'd the stock NF7-S cooler. Ive already ordered some AS Expoxy and cut up some Heatsinks to cool various spots on the board.
I know the NF7 doesnt pump the volts needed for UTT, Ive already done some searches on this board and found a mod that powers the dimm slots using the 3.3v ATX wire. My only concern with performing a mod like this is my Enermax PSU spikes the 3.3 line as high as 3.45. I dont recall what the line is under load. I had also considered an OCZ booster as well. But if its anything like the wire mod I found and supplies unregulated voltage via one of the PSU's various rails I may as well save some cash and do the mod.
Lastly, whats generally considered an ample wattage for a soldiering iron to be used on a motherboard.
