View Full Version : Can I run 4x 512mb and retain my FSB speed?

I want to use 2gb of RAM but I don't want to loose my overclock.

My OCZ Gold VX is doing 266mhz, Can I put another 2 sticks in and keep this?

It will be hard to get 266 back with 4. What CPU and motherboard are you using? Depending on what CPU 4x512 may drop memory to 333 and it will definately default to 2T

@Ziro,

If you have a Winnie/Newcastle/Clawhammer core you will be forced to run DDR333 mode and 2T. A Venice/SanDiego/X2 will run DDR400 mode at 2T.

I have seen people running 250-255 with 4 sticks...but it is really hit or miss, depends on how good your CPU's mem controller is.

If you loosen the timings to 2-3-2-5 and run the max Async at 9ns, Read Preamble at 7ns, tREF at 2064 or 1032, those might help you get 266.

I could not run my TCCD at 310 with 4 even though each set can do it.

So I settled for this at 3.1v, yes it's 2T, there is nothing u can do about that with 4 sticks tho.

:( I'm trying to sell my VX and get a pair of 1gb ocz sticks. No luck so far. 150 quid.

I have my second set of ballistix coming in the mail next week so I will be going for 260fsb with 4x512. I am not sure if they will do it but I dont see why not. Only thing I need to worry bout is if this Sd mem controller is gonna take it. I have had 4x512 of ocz value that was fine at 204 fsb so I will post back here when I do get the ram.
