Hi. Its been a while since I poisted my projects here but now I believe its time to do so.

This is thread is only for the end product(well at least pretty damn close to it), but if you want an more in depth description you can visit Teampuss :)

The comprssors used are 12cc Electrolux R404a machine and 20.4cc Aspera R134a compressor.

HX is basically ~5m of 1/4 tube wrapped as a tight coil around a broomstick, then stuffed inside a 60cm long and 42mm OD copper pipe. The space that is in the center of the coil is filled with an empty pipe of 5/8 copper with its ends brazed shut.

Captubes used are ~150cm of 0.31 for the first stage and ~190cm for the second. Scond charged with ethylene and first with R290+1150+ a hose full of 404a.

The best I got it today was -107c noload but it couldnt keep my 160w loadresistor cold so I added some more. After that it it started to hold the temps pretty good but the damn loadresistor blew up on me again so I couldnt test it in the long run. When I turned the resistor on temps rose to -89c but started to drop again untill the resistor blew up few minutes after. At that time the evap was around -91c but I didnt get a picture of it.

With this charge it idled around -103c.

I still need to tweak it some more tough specially the first stage. That has become the real challenge in these projects. The second stage is just so easy but getting the first to hold temps is a whole another story.

And here are some pictures. If you want to see the "in the making" pictures just visit TP.

Looking awesome! Your board seems to be bending from the weight though. And awesome temperatures!

That should kick ass, Thanks for the update.

Yeah that bord is definantly bending under the weight. I added some steel pipes under the board to make it more stiff but it still bends a bit.

Too bad I cant dare to put it on a real CPU in this weather. This is what the insulation lookeed last night. The suction has 2 layers of 9mm armaflex on it and it still sweats like crazy.

Damn that's some nice work!

It looks better in the pictures than in real life tough :( The expanding foam+ the weight on the base caused the HX box to become a bit diamond shaped. But I can never be satisfied so thats just my opinnion :P

nice work.... i have to get off my lazy but and finish my 3 stager + fix my gpu cascade.... though its alot easier sitting here and typing about doing it :D

That is so true JSU :D

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Ill need to do some more tweaking but its slowly getting there.

You've pulled it together nicely , my friend :buddies: [[ ]] :woot:

hatemi that cascade is looking good.
and the pipe hx is working a trick, pitty more pply werent into the pipe HX.
that is alot of condensation on that suction line/evap.
imagine what the mobo would look like on pull down :toast:

I'm still not sure if this HX is preforming any better than the one on my first one with 3/8 inside 5/8...

Yeah the condesation is a biatch. There is no way iin earth that I'm going to hook this up on a real CPU in this humidity.

I planned that I could have finished this cascade in this week but it sure looks like I can forget about it. I'm having somesort of throat infection and my body temperature is going up and down like crazy. Either anoying chills or massive sweating. Now I'm just too tiered to actually do anything.

Any ideas for solving problem with condensation?

Wait for this heat/humidity to end. Add even one more layer of Armaflex... But that would only help with the suction tube. Mobo would still be covered with moisture within a minute...

hatemi i know what its like to bench humit hot weather.
use lots of desk fans.

I think I'll have to try that. But how to insulate the surroundings of NB? I was thinking of using a single stager to cool it since I'm stuck at 303FSB with my AS8-V.

Ok time to update. First stage charged with R402A. Loaded with 180w. frist pic is the highest it got after I put the load on and the second is where it ended. Howered there (+-1c) for about an hour so I can say it can hold the load just fine:)

Too bad the first stage comressor is HBP one that likes to run @10PSI lowside no matter what so this is basically the best it can do.

Allmost hit the -100! congrats m8

-100@180W and with those compressor would be nice:D But I'll try to tweak the second stage tomorrow if I can get it run even better. I might have hit the wall tough. That 180w load is pretty massive tough since my Prescot (540J@4.8ghz 1.635v) didnt put out even close as much this block does.

Don't take any chances - Wait for the humidity to dry up. If it's raining - It's Dead!!

the temp of hx is very different compare to the r290?

hatemi
07-25-2005, 08:36 PM
Much better than pure R290 but in the same balpark as with the mix of R290+ethylene. I'm tempted to try with few hoses full of ethylene in there but this will have to do. More testing will be done when I get my other cascade working. It will be a whole another beast :D 2x SC18CL etc.
