i made one using the copper caps from home depot and the base plate from a maze-4 water block. I think that the improved surface area from using a waterblock helps.

Okay so homedepot has the caps, but I dont have a waterblock to spare. So, any other ways? Do they sell flat copper peices at homedepot?

danger den maze 4 is cheap.
dd also sells just copper bases but you might as well get the block if you're going to order.

0.25" is not thick enough since we're talking very low surface area.

1/4 inch would work nicely.

i think depending on the number of caps used and the thickness of the caps that a 1/4" base would be thinner than ideal.
if you groove it a little or make some divets it would be better.

Hmmm... Well I have a bar of 2" x 12" x 3/4". And Its a balls-to-the-wall-PITA to cut this with a hacksaw. An hour and I've cut 1" of 2" in. I was thinking of cap in cap cause this was so hard. I geuss I'll be taking this 3/4" peice, carving divets that are damn deep in it, and then maybe putting a few caps on.... Or cut another 2" peice and make a normal evap. Though 3/4" on 3/4" is a pain in the ass and a waste of copper.

.75" is very thick, i think that may be too far in the other direction. i think .375" or maybe .5" would be best.

Learn how to use a hacksaw, you use the whole blade, longer motions will do it faster than short back and forth jerks... I cut throught 1/4" in about 2 minutes for a new evap.
