While doing the vchip mod I knocked off the little resistor and need some help putting it back on. I have put resistors back on boards before but with this one there is no solder at the two end points. Its as if the solder was just sitting on top of the board not connecting to anything. The brown spots in the pic happen after the mod while I've been trying to repair the spot. At this point its more of a learning process for me unless I get lucky and the board works so I will try just about anything.

you may have lifted the copper off the board.
I'm confused though, you say there's no 'solder' at either of the end points of the resistor? or the lands on the board?

Nothing, it was just a bare spot on the board. Orange just like any other area of the motherboard, no holes, no leads, nothing. I can't get it to hold solder no matter what I do.

yeah, I think you may have lifted the lands on the board (the copper bits the component attaches to). Easy enough to do if you either pulled to hard or applied too much heat during desoldering.
Can you see the traces going up to where the pads woudl be? you might be able to take a very sharp exacto knife and scrape some of the soldermask off of to expose some copper, then solderblob your resistor back on.

Can't really see anything but I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
Update: I took my razor and cut a little away at the solder points and did find some metal so hopefully my shaky hands can get a drop of solder in there. Thanks again. :)
