Ive been a long time reader first time poster.

I finally decided to upgrade from my p4 2.4 northy to a amd 3000. Ordered it as a combo from monarch and recieved mobo with heatsink on. I heard the new steppings were pretty bad and decided to take off the heatsink to see what stepping I recieved. Somehow, they gave me a LBBLE 0517APFW :) which I heard overclocks really well. Anyways, I have some newbie questions since I dont want to mess anything up.

1. Can someone clarify how to flash to a new bios. From what I have read, this is what I think I have to do.
-download DOS-With-310_PUBLIC which creates the bootable floppy
-download bios(510-2fixed)
-execute DOS-With-310_PUBLIC
-drag and drop bios into floppy
-restart
-load optimized defaults
-bios will automatically download on restart
-It will prompt A:/
-Type : flash
-done???

2. I will be buying some value vx and was wondering if 510-2fixed is the best option for me.

3. I am currently goin to use my pc2100 ram as I have no cash whatsoever after buying the mobo and cpu, does the ultra-d support such slow memory?

Thanx in advance for helping out a newbie

Specs:
AMD 3000+ venice LBBLE 0517APFW
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
OCZ value VX

Welcome to XtremeSystems !!! :toast:

To flash on the DFI NF4, go to this link and burn the CD image with all the different BIOS revisons on it, boot from it and follow directions.

If you running the Value VX then I'd suggest starting with the 510fix-2 bios

Edit opps wrong link :D fixed now

Also, I don't recondmend flashing from floppy disc ;) I know people do, but they aren't very reliable with data. Suggest CD or if you have a completely stable OS then you can use Winflash.

Sorry to be dumb, but I dont see the 510fix-2 bios in the list of bios given.

And to flash from a CD would it work the same way as flashing from a floppy?

Yep same as floppy, exect with the CD image just follow the onscreen directions.

Also the list is not up to date in that thread, but the CD image is ! it has EVERY Bios release for the DFI NF4 !
