View Full Version : Chilly1 "kit" questions

A couple months ago I was thinking about moving to phase change and eventually shelved the idea because it's so dang expensive (tough decision between modding the car or the PC :) I've been a member here for a while, but still don't have enough posts to view the classifieds due to lack of time to post :( I've run pelts in the meantime as a step up from WC and have gotten too used to -C temps to stay with just WC.

I just "upgraded" from a P5AD2-E to a P5WD2 and didn't reinstall the pelt yet. I am thinking it's time to get rid of all the rads, pumps, fans, hoses, pelt, extra PSU, etc. and just go vapo. I PM'd chilly1 about pricing on putting something together for me since I've read his are as good/better and a lot cheaper than an off-the-shelf setup (Mach 2 or LS/AC).

I don't want to bombard him with questions (I am a phase newbie), so I was hoping someone else that got one of hit setups could maybe answer.

I saw bbmods kit build thread and was wondering if all the kits are sold in pieces or does chilly1 sell them complete, gassed and ready to go? I don't currently have the tools/knowledge to put one together myself, so I am looking for something plug-n-play to get my feet wet and will go from there.

I am guessing/assuming chilly1 will "build to suit", but I really have no idea what to ask for. I assume the "standard" setup would be akin to a Mach II or LS/AC? Is there any kind of control board or software necessary to run the unit or just set it up a relay to power on with the PC?

Oh, I bought a Lian V2000 a few months ago with the idea of putting a vapo setup in the bottom...is there any reason to believe that one of chilly1's setups wouldn't fit in it if the Vapochill and Prometia's will?

I am sure I'll have a ton more questions as I learn more, but thanks for any responses/tips/help here!

Chilly1 can do either just sell you the parts and you put it together or he can do it all and ship it to you and all you have to do is attach it. Chily1's setup will fit on that case, but you have to talk to him about that in detail.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I meant IN the bottom of the case, not under it. Is that what you meant by "on" (like the case on top the unit's case?).

I guess all I need to do is talk to him then...easier said than done? I am guessing he gets a ton of PMs and mine is buried in his inbox somewhere :) I am kind of hoping he will post in here so we can get some kind of dialog going. If I wait too long to get one, I am afraid I'll talk myself out of it for like the 3rd time :D

Look in the for sale forum. I think he has some units already built and for sale there.

When you get 100 posts :p: :woot: Untill then just browse the forum = http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=64366

Yeah, the 100 post rule blows. I know why it is, but that still doesn't mean it doesn't suck when I am ready to buy and a person with a history in other forums :( I guess I need to stay up all night replying to posts...hehe. Keep posting here so I can keep responding...I am 11% there!

Thanks for link though...I'll be reading it thoroughly...

Oh, I know posting of pricing is not allowed in the forums, but can someone with classifieds access maybe PM me a ballpark of what his kits are going for in there?

Thanks again...

Yeah, unfortunately I can't keep an eye out since I can't see the classifieds yet. I need Chilly1 to PM me back ASAP so I can get one ordered up!!

That's the exact same case I have, so if you can post pics as you go or when you're done, that would be awesome. I'll need to live vicariously through you for the time being :) I'd really, really like to have one by the end of next week (hoping to get one ordered this weekend), but I don't know what kind of time frame he has for getting them together...

Thanks

I to am interested in Chilly1's Phase Change. I'm a complete novice when it comes to Phase but have been lurking here, at overclockers.com and Hardocp. I sent Chilly a few PM's and explained I'm uncomfortable with putting one of his kits together and would rather have a complete Chilly1 Phase Change unit. I'd like to know if Chilly's units use LCD or just hook up to a thermometer. Also does it have a controler unit like the Prommie or LS where you turn on the Phase and then when it's cold enough it turns on the computer. I want to overclock my X2 4400+ to extreme (currently @2400Mhz with air cooling). :D

That's the boat I am in (phase newb). I asked in the PM about some kind of controller, but of course am still waiting for a reply. Apparently, he will put everything together for you so it's plug-n-play, but that is naturally more expensive than if you DIY.

I don't know if they are standard, but I saw a thread for a cool little controller that I *think* can be added on to his kits. See here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49823&highlight=froster

I am looking often to find threads in other areas that I can help out in. As for this section, I'll have more questions than answers :) I assume I'll hear back from him privately long before I get anywhere near 100 posts anyway, so I am not too worried about it...just anxious :D

Hey just keep in mind with the hot weather Chilly's probably REALLY busy so I'm sure he'll answer any PM's soon as he can.

We all have a life outside of the forums, and for an HVAC that life is usually 99% work in the summer months

Being in the UK my unit wasn't actually built by Chilly1, but it's a 507 regass, and one of Chilly's lurvly evap heads, and I can tell ya, worth every penny :D

Chilly1 is using our controllers as an extra, you can make a search on "G-froster", his units are the only with "real" controllers.

GrayMole-- yeah, I'll bet, especially living where he does. I got a PM from him today, so hopefully things will move a little faster now :)

Ssilencer-- that thing sure does look cool. I already inquired about adding one to my kit.
