The characters on the keys can change what they display to show what the key controlls in different programs.

If logitech makes one that has a layout like their elite series keyboards I'll buy one. I really don't like the layout around the enter button on that keyboard.

You could just pick up a keyboard before they labeled it, far cheaper than the 80$ they are charging. I have a stack of those microsoft split keyboards with nothing on them.

nah these keyboards have weighted keys for ur stronger fingers and lighter ones for your weaker. Its hard to explain but theres a bunch of tech in this board than you think, read some of the reviews they got.

err theres a standard for keyboards... so its just a regular layout hence the concept of a elitest keyboard where u dont even need keys printed. ;)

There isn't really _the_ standard for key configurations either, there are tons of different keyboards with different key configurations out there. There are also different standards for different countries, languages and regions. But, I've never seen any other LED configuration than this one. And wouldn't it be apparent through "error and trial" which LED means what? The true geek wouldn't want any leds anyway.

The Optimus is definitely cool looking!

I've been typing with a Kinesis (http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/advantage.htm) keyboard for about 5 years now and wont' ever look back... it has saved my wrists many times over.

If you can stand the complete absence of aesthetics, it might actually be of some good. Say, do you ever get used to it? By the looks of it, I know it would make me sea sick. However, if you like it, then by all means, good for you! Especially if ergonomics are good, it must be worth its ugliness in gold!

Myself I'm typin on whatever comes my way. :D

and there is a STANDARD for a keyboard, its called the 104 layout. Its on one of the reviews.

Which was derived from the 101 layout. It's just the 101-key Enhanced with three Windows buttons. Moreover, it's American.

If you read my post carefully, I was stating there wasn't _the_ standard. That is, not a single standard which everyone follows. There are different ones depending on lots of things, from design to functuality.

Here are some other STANDARD keyboard layouts FYI: 83-Key PC/XT, 84-Key AT Keyboard Layout, 101-Key "Enhanced" Keyboard Layout, 102-Key "Enhanced" Keyboard Layouts...

Anyway, my point being still there isn't one single standard layout.

there's also both qwerty and dvorak. there are others too, but those are the most widely used.

I think that the das keyboard is a pretty neat idea, it would allow me to go ahead and learn dvorak as i've been intending to do for a while now whilst allowing anyone else who uses the computer to use qwerty. all that would need to be done is change the layout in windows.

of course, since i have some hunt & peck people i sometimes let on the computer i'd have to do some kind of removable labels... MOD TIME! :)

You're going to buy an overpriced label less keyboard just to add labels?

My point was that there is a standard, what you were talking about waay before was that no one could use the keyboard because they didnt know what keys were what, but the point I am trying to make here is that it adheres to A standard, the 104 standard. I did not say the 104 standard was the absolute standard that all keyboards go by.

I never said anything like that. You must be confusing me with someone else?

On the contrary, I was disappointed in them labeling the LEDs. I think the functional part of the keyboard should've been completely unlabeled.

but the point I am trying to make here is that it adheres to A standard, the 104 standard. I did not say the 104 standard was the absolute standard that all keyboards go by.
You didn't make any point at all then. Never said it didn't adhere to a standard. I just said there were many standards out there, and variations of them, as an answer to you saying there wasn't a standard on how the LEDs are ordered. You seemed to think only the 104 standard existed, while I wanted you to see there were many, so if keeping track of the different keyboard layouts wasn't a problem, then the LEDs probably wouldn't be a major one either.

Moreover, since it "only" was a 104 "Windows" keyboard layout, and not a 107-key "Enhanced" keyboard layout, not labeling the "specials" wouldn't be critical at all. (However not labeling the sleep and power keys on the 107 could be much more critical, yet the true geek shouldn't fail here either.)

Furthermore, my first post was more of a joke than anything else, I like the initiative, just thought they could've gone all the way. That's all. :woot: <-- wtf is this guy doing here? lol

And every other (good) keyboard out there doesn't? Try putting some weights on some demo keyboards at stores, or if you have alot of high end keyboards in your house for some reason try those. The keys on my Logitech boards do take different amounts of weight.

The keys on my Logitech boards do take different amounts of weight.I've had "weighted" keyboards since I was little boy (as long as I can remember really). However, since a few years back I've always bought non-weighted keyboards, I prefer them. Then I know what to expect when pressing a key, and you can relax your fingers on the keys with ease.

I don't notice a difference between either, but I remember one time after going right from a logitech to a generic dell keyboard I couldn't type anything because I wasn't using enough force. It never happened when I was using a cheap keyboard "cold" though.

hmm i never knew that. All the keyboards I have used feel the same from a microsoft media keyboard to a ms natural keyboard, to a plain keyboard, to a laptop keyboard, in terms of weight that is. However the laptop keyboard is my favorite so far, I love the soft noise it makes when I type on it. :p:
