We ( I and my friend pofigist) have modded my Bernzomatic torch :D
http://images.people.overclockers.ru/33123.jpg
We have brazed shredder valve and connect it to tank with R290.
It work's :)
Some time later we have fueled my tuned BernzOmatic's tank.
You can see details on picture :)
http://images.people.overclockers.ru/33122.jpg
After filling we have 12psi in tahe tank.
Result:

With 12PsiMy torch work so good... like MAPP gas torch :)
Special Thanks to Pofigist for help :toast:

Wait... You brazed on a propane tank.... Isn't that like risking massively gorey death?

Then we brazed a tank be empty.
I know working with high flamable gases is very dangerous....
we are xtreme :D

so you've brazed a schrader valve on to the cylinder so you can keep refilling it ?

hows propane going to be good as MAPP gas (http://www.bernzomatic.com/bernzomatic/consumer/jhtml/gasTypeComparisons.jhtml) ?

Yes,i can refill it :D
High Pressure.... it's our secret.
The flame on torch looking great :)
I'll test it on big tubes tomorrow .
The sheme of filling looking like :big tank with R290 and fill adapter por filling- hose - gauge manifolds - hose -compressor-hose-shreder on berzomatic tuned tank in cold water. R290 condensed in cold tank.

Avoid Alloys containing more than 67% Copper!? this is with mapp gas....how can that be?

mr-white

so you're creating more pressure when you fill it up than what it came with when you bought it ? whats the pressure difference now and before ?

you can fill more fuel if you invert the propane tank and fill liquid, but the smaller one you are filling should NEVER be filled more than 80% of capacity. You MUST leave room for expansion.

also i'm not 100% sure but if I remmber correctly that valve on the side of the tank, which it looks like you removed, also doubles as a pressure relief valve. If so it needs to be left intact.

theres no valve as such on the side but theres a small circle about 3/4mm which could be used as a safety feature in case pressure does get too high.

it also says refilling may cause explosion. Federal law forbids transportation if refilled - penalty up to $500,000 and 5 years imprisonment (49 U.S. C5124). but i assume as he's not in the US that it doesnt apply

Hey,looking good, but u should braze the schadrer port in other place, not the pressure relief valve, and u dont need a compressor to put the gas inside the bottle, just do a vacuum in the bottle and then you can fill with propane or butane easily

It'll be an extreme explosion in any case. More power to you.

12psi is way far for blowing away that bottle,so i think is ok

Thank you guys :)
In next tank we'll made a adapter to use it in a center valve to fill it
I think you can see results tomorrow :)

Very dangerous, but NICE! I personally wouldn't try it, but congrats on the work! And yeah, 12psi isn't much at all.

I hope he get a tomorrow!!!

Thats a very hard way to learn. I know, we did some and have a hole to show for it!
SIlly friend thought he should heat it up by fireplace, it launched, it made a hole, it got us banned from that shop for a while, lucky we were out side on a 420. lol
Man I remember the 80's

very good and that way you can fill any tank without brazing in a valve,

where did 12 psi come from, there is more pressure than that, thats wrong!

Well he used manifold guages to charge so that would be26.7 psi

John.

propane IIRC is some where around 120 psi at ambiant temp.

wdrzal

john what do you mean its 26.7 psi because he used manifold gauges? How did you get that from 12 psi?

edit: I see you added 14.7 so the 26.7 is psia........... not psig.......... most pressure are given in psig

IMHO He isnt rechargint the tanks, only using it to connect the brenzomatic burner to a larger gas sylinder. Manifoild as a regulator and the empty botle just in between the burner and hose so you dont need to braze the schraeder directly to the tip.

Nah I was wrong :) he is recharging them.

hatemi,
Yeah! I've recharge them :)

their easy and safe to recharge if you do it right, and you dont need to do any brazing or anything to do it. Actually a better idea would be to get a propane tank --> cga 200 adapter then you can screw your torch onto the hose into the propane tank.. these hoses are very common.
