It is difficult to benchmark a DVDR drive for that reason. Firmware can change once a year, or even as quick as once a day, depending on the team in charge of testing the units. Therefore, performance can change drastically from year to year, or day to day.

I just go buy either the cheapest one that got 4-5 star rating on a site. or just get the cheapest one...which has turned out well for me...I bought the CD burner I use now for like 20bucks back when they were alot more than that (Rebates are great :D) I have yet to find media it can't write to and it's the fastest drive I've got.

I picked up a Lightscribe DVD burner, I sure like flipping over the media to burn labels on the other side
