im thinking, wtf? so then i go to nv website and dl the driver off their site, 77.72. uninstalled my previous one, used driver clean pro etc. then installed the new one.
after 5 mins of fiddling around, i once again tried to start the game up. but with no freakin luck >_<
does anyone have the same problem or know a way around it? any help would be greatly appreciated thx!

nothing is oc'd yet btw. haven't found anything worth ocing thus far.

Have you upgraded with the latest patch from eagames.com yet?

Hmmm....
I dont have BF2, but Ill try to help

Whats your monitor?
It could be a refresh lock problem

Do you run other games without a problem?
What are the other games yo usually play

What service pack do you have on Win XP?

Is your PC OCed a lot?

pc isn't oced yet, coz i don't do much that would need it to be oced.
other games i play are cs and css.
my monitor is an old hp m50, 15inch 1024*768@60hz.
xp pro sp2.
i've read that the new patch is bugged with a memory leak and ea told everyone to uninstall and reinstall.
i haven't installed the patch yet. just trying to get it to run stock.
single/multi player doesn't want to run, but that trailer works fine.

If you arespeaking 1.01, then that is a bad idea. The 1.01 patch had a memory leak for most servers outside the testing grounds of EA. Anyway all offical servers rolled back to the original shipping version. You can still find some 1.01 sevrers out there but they have to be reset ever 3 or 4 hours to control the memory leak.

If there is a newer patch I am unaware of, feel free to smack me.

Does your system crash with any other D3D or OpenGl app?

Also, I use the 77.30 because 77.72 has HORRIBLE DVD playback quality, but I highly doubt that this has anythign to do with your crashing.

Either way the first thing I would try is re-installing the game, if I were you, just to make sure there is nothing screwed up with the file structure.

nope, all other games run butter smooth. no lock ups or crashes.
im thinking maybe i should reinstall mobo drivers? would installing the latest nf4 amd mobo drivers be compatible with nf3?
i'll try reinstalling the game.

Test your DirectX
go to Start -> Run -> Type DxDiag
Make a test for DirectDraw and Direct 3D
Make sure that the DirectDraw, Direct 3D, and textire acelerations are enabled

Dont think this might be a problem, because you run the other games without a problem, but give it a try

Check in your advanced display options to see if the monitor's refresh rate is being controlled by the video drivers, that might help

BF2 has a known problem when directx 9c is not installed. If you have windows XP SP2 it should have directx9c however there is no way to fix the problem if you have SP2 and only directx 9b other than reinstalling windows XP SP2.

I have the same problem but will pass on the game if I have to reinstall windows to get directx 9c. :(

ya but, i have 9.0c.
also, i just finished installing the demo to see if that would work, but it doesn't.
this is getting annoying to say the least.
and i can't find any email address at the ea website for support >_<

BF2 is crashing maybe 15 minutes into playing for me. Thinking it may be a heat issue, but my AC is blasting. All my video settings are on high though. oh an renderer.drawfps 1 for Frame rate ;-)

indeed. It's VERY resource intensive I can tell you that. Only thing that realy bogs down my system. Make sure you don't have anyhting silly runnign in the backround

only norton is in the background.
the support at ea is kind of weak. the only info i came across their site was to update my video driver, which i did and even the bloody demo doesn't work >_<

i hear ya.this was a tough game to get to run right even with decent spec hardware.I spent a days to do after i bought it.

I can suggest update punkbuster before even trying anything. The easiest way is using pbweb.exe in your pb folder of game.

anything locking the refresh rate will also cause game not to load.

my particular problem with crashes was resolved to keep windows refresh rate @60hz.took a long time to figure this,so maybe it will help someone. This game still has plenty of bugs i wont cover.most aggravating to me are key bind limitations that go against my key preferences.

also, latest patch isnt so great and said to have memory leaks, but then you will have to sort thru servers to figure out where you can play online until the patch for the patch comes out
