The Intel Celeron 2g, the best bang for the buck. The thing Overclocks Incredibly but it sucks at 3D Mark :D

Dang! A Celly @ 3.7Ghz must almost be able to run Solitaire & Minesweeper at a decent speed! ;)
Very nice overclock OPP, could you give us some benchies at that speed too? :toast:

Celerons SUCK for anything 3d... They are okay for applications that stream data and dont need much l2 cache, like DIVX encoding, mp3 encoding, or anything like that.

Dam mine only gets 3200 on air, is that in your prometeia opp?? What were your 3dmark scores with it??
Only reason i bought one was it was $59 on intels IPD. . I have a 2.1 also and a 2.2 on the way. The 2.1 is sold in a rig @ 3ghz. I made a killing.
And as far as sucking. They do fold@home just as fast as p4's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! @ my same 3200mhz on a P4, i tested it. ,
I do lose almost 4.5 to 5k in 3dmark. compared to a p4 @ the same speed.
But still What chip can you get for $60-90 that will let you hit over 13k in 3dmark, my 9700 pro of course. CPU on air and just a factory intel heat sink.
And opp can you please put that celeron to work folding. You havnt turned any work unit's in, in a while??
We are trying to pass 2cpu.com soon. and your dog celeron would be very handy, mines doing very good folding.
Just trying to get you motivated. No shots at you intended!!!!!!!!!!!! I recruit for our folding team everywhere, and keep an eye on everyone in case they slip a bit.
But you have this in your sig. So come on!!!!!
Come and join the folding team and see if your rig can Handle

i think it's pretty safe to assume that:D

You can get a 48 dollar xp1600 from newegg and get 13k in 3dmark. Thats what other chip can do it.:)
Was gonna say the same, Umgawa :)
Nice, OC OPP ;)
I wonder how a 3.2ghz celeron folds compared to say a 2ghz axp. Perhaps the celery is a better buy than a lower-clocked xp for a folding rig? :D

Hey OPP, that MM bench looks kindda.. hmmmm........ not real......
Well..... 39xxx on the CPU/MM..... that looks really sky high.... but If we compare it to 2.8G HyperT results.... it's like 3x higher.... :stick:

Could you post some numbers or screenshots? I've heard some conflicting reports about this. Some people are saying that with the new gromacs core cache starts to matter a lot more.

I'll post some after xmas is over. I havnt tried it on Gromacs, since no one has seen any in 2 weeks.
And unless people are on the beta team they shouldnt be folding any gromacs.
But i'll get you something to compare soon

Wow, that thing is really cooking :D
I just checked and I'm crunching the same protein right now, so here is my Athlon XP @ just over 1700MHz (12 X 143) for comparison:

Oh, the celerys. Yea, mine did 3ghz at stock voltage until the board died. :(

Celeron@ 3.3 G= 1 frame per 1:20 or 80 seconds
Xp1600@ 1.7 G = 1 frame per 1:30 or 90 seconds
I got that right?
Looks like an OC'd xp still has the price/performance edge in Folding and Multimedia. Must be nice to have a near 100% OC though!

Bang for the buck, XP's are still better for folding. Sure would be nice to see more of your names on our folding team. Ive been there for only 2 months an in place 13 now.
Hint hint. that mean please sign up and help us out.
I havnt had a chance to try any gromacs out on the celeron, since there havnt been any in a while, and i am on the beta team, and no date on getting anymore.
My tbred 1800's @ 2ghz kill the celeron. plus you can buy 2 for the price of a celeron 2.2 which is around $120 now. I got it off the intel IPD for $78 though and the 2.0 for $59. Otherwise I wouldnt of spent the money on celeron's.
I can get 13.8k 3dmark out of the celeron
Hehe and on a Bd7 with an older bios, it shows as a true p4 on startup to all you "posers" out there. hehe.

you can sometimes get them on ebay, and newegg has them... there is a 45w 1900+ there that has a stock core of 1.5v for $99
the other ones have a 1.4v core... dont ask me about the price difference cause i have no clue why they are so far apart. I heard newegg baught a bunch of them becasue they heard OCers like us where buying them up, as far as i know its the only 2 places you can get them, and besides the .1v core difference i dont think there is any difference between the two... if you can find out any more let me know
i started a thread here...
