Im looking at buying one of these new intel dual cores.
I believe that the new 840 EE is unlocked and allows you to change the multiplier.
I am interested how far this chip would clock using a vapochill extreme edition II. Has anyone tried to overclock this chip allready.
I am looking at this setup - what do you think ?
Intel Extreme Edition 840 Dual Core 3.2Ghz
Asus P5ND2 SLi Deluxe
Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-8000UL
2 x XFX GeForce 7800GTX Extreme Edition GPU's
600W PSU
etc ... etc ...
Do you think i will need better memory than the corsair - i was thinking 4.2+ maybe?
It should be good for gaming and "day to day" working.
Thanks again :)

I hope you have some LN2 handy to keep that thing under control! Those things put out an amazing amount of heat.

It does put out a lot of heat, i think the wr atm is around 5.3ghz with a cascade (i think) so youll probably be looking low to mid 4's.
Edit: that was the 830, not sure what it is with the 840 ee

The 840EE's multi is LOCKED unless it is a ES (engineering sample)
The 840EE ES only have the multi unlocked upwards. (X14-60)
correct me if i m wrong
Reguardless of the multiplier is unlocked or not, your new system will handle any game in Mega resoultion and max AA/AS. It also will outperform any single core system in "day to day" working and multitasking. If you have no problem with price tag, go for it.

Ummm unlocked upwards only ? Seems a strange way of doing things ? Can anyone fill me in on the multiplier options on the 840 EE ?

This is a quote from a well known mag here in the UK.
"While Intel processors have traditionally overclocked further than their AMD counterparts, the Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX have one big advantage over Pentium 4e: an unlocked multiplier. On an Athlon 64, the multiplier can only be lowered, but on an Athlon 64 FX, it can also be raised, so with a good motherboard and great cooling, you can achieve some truly stellar overclocks. Other than Pentium M and Xeon, Intel locks the multiplier on its current CPUs, so it came as something of a surprise to us (actually, it was more of a bombshell) that the 840 is also fully unlocked. That's right, after years of banging on at Intel to sell an unlocked chip, even if it was just for us enthusiasts, we finally have one."

Ummm i really want the SLI for my Games :)
This machine needs to be as good at gaming as it is at anything else. I was thinking an X2 but i believe the Intel chips are still better allrounders :)
Vincentvega18 you read that mag too ... hehe its got some good reviews in it but the back pages "here is what i built!" should be chopped !
The last one with Mr Chip Board case - i wasnt too impressed LOL :)

Expansion Slots 1 x PCI Express x16 slot for discrete graphics card
1 x Universal PCI-E Slot ( x4 mode)
1 x PCI Express x1
3 x PCI
only 1 PCIe x16 slot+ 1 PCIe x4, how can use 2 cards for SLi you need 2 xPCIex16/8 no?
nForce4 SLI-Intel Edition can beable to SLI
