Down one rig...

One XP1700+ Tbred dead via a bad VapoChill installation. :( I have another Tbred tied up in an RMA so I'll be down one rig for the next week(or maybe a bit less). The other bummer is once again rig #8 is delayed. I don't think I'll be buying any equipment for a little while so that's on hold for at least 2 or 3 weeks.

BTW, how'd the installation go bad? I've had an offer for a vapo that I think I might buy, a bit scared by hearing of all the crushed cores & whatnot ;)

It's just impossible to get the evaporator on the core flat, and then keep it flat while you tighten the mounting screws. Seems like Asetek has been offering plastic shims for AMD processors for a while so this must be a common issue. I'm going to write them and see if I can't get a couple sent my way.

I may try and fab a type of soft shim out of some extra gasket I have. It's almost the exact thickness of the four standard pads on the AMD processor, I'm just going to have it directly around the processor so the evaporator mounts to it.

We'll see... if I get the replacement Tbred and it's not at least an AGUIA then I'll probably sacrifice it. :D

On my amd watercooled/pelt rig. I surrounded the core with JB weld, Put Vasoline on a junk heatsink. Mounted the heatsink. Waited a couple hours before it set up. Removed the heatsind

This was 9 months ago and the 1800xp is still going strong, and has been switched to new MB's many times. It's an older chip but will make it over 1900mhz no problem.

But i did see vapochill was just giving the new plastic shims away. So i might order some too, even though I dont have and AMD vapochill. I'll use them for whatever
