Well, I am into gaming, and McAfee can be a real pain when it comes to gaming. I will have Anti spyware covered...

I need a FireWall, and a Virus Scan program, and thats about it...

Which is better, McAfee, or Norton, or is there another program I should look into?

Thanks,

Yan Booth

I have used these programs for years, without a single virus infection or successful intrusion. And they are both free :D

Anti-virus:

Firewall:

For Anti-virus use AntiVir. For firewall just use the SP2 firewall.

Thanks, I am downloading them... If I like them, I won't bother with the big brands, and their expensive service plans, but: Which major anti infection program is better for a person like me who plays many online games? McAfee, or Norton?

Both McAfee and Nortorn are terrible, but I would pick McAfee.

Norton is bad IMO McAfee is alright though. But I still use AVG, got a virus, but it cleared it up :D

Hum OS X :D
Today i was setting up a wifi network at a friend's house, it took me almost 5 hours to have it all set up. First the card was DOA, then after buying a new one it was finally connected to the net. As soon as i opened IE even with norton running, boom something like a thousand virus, spyware and sh*t came on the comp, it took me several hours to have all that cleaned up. Damn i'm happy to come bac to my pb :)

Anyway for your problem, i would say avg + sygate personal firewall (very easy to use plus it's free for the home version) I never had a problem with that firewall.

NOD32!!! Bar none the best

I just switched to NOD32 and I am very impressed with how fast it scans. It is low on recourses too, but I don't run it in the background anyway.

On Win2k, I use ZoneAlarm (the free version), and AVG Free Edition. For spyware, well, that's unneccesary since I don't use MSIE. I've never had a virus with this setup, but it may be due to the fact I update very often, and I don't look up "questionable material" (;)) on dodgy sites.

I used to use Norton for both firewall and Av but got annoyed with all the bugs and problems. I then tried various others, Nod32, AV7 and so on. I eventually settled on Avast for AV and Sygate for firewall. Both can be had for free:

Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html

Sygate: http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm

Hope this helps! :)
