View Full Version : Overclocking ASUS N6600

It seems I got a good card - it runs 430/640 with no mods. But I am a little unsure about temp readings. The asus smart doctor reports very low temps - about 50 C at full load. Is this real or the app is misreading temperature.

Also I seem to have very low 2001 score - 11000 at 300/550 and 12500 at 420/620 - maybe the GF6xxx ain't good for 2001. On 2003 it scores about 6100 overclocked with 1.8 Ghz tbred.

Any ideas of temp readings and low 2001 score, I need to know more info before I push it to the limit.

Temps are OK, 3dm03 score is OK, 2k1 score is CPU limited.

no artifacts or sign of instability, just freezes

Its funny cause my cousin bought the same exact card 2 days ago without consulting me(he knows i know sh1tloads about this) now hes stuck with a 0.11micron 6600 that O/C's less than most 0.15 micron 9800Pros'!! i would have told him to get a Leadtek one but its too late now, anyways his memz arent too bad, they good for 675Mhz before acting up, its the core that wont O/C verry well, it hardlocks at anything over 427Mhz wich is just sad for somin 0.11 micron, most other 6600's are able to hit 500 with ease and way more too, so whats the deal with these ASUS cards, are they proggramed to O/C to 430Mhz and hardlock or somin, is it a safety meassure? cause ive seen lots of cases were people hit the same 430Mhz wall with theyre ASUS 6600
We are really good friends and hes a bit sad about all this and it would be cool if i could make his work at 500Mhz on the core just like a GT, would anyone know how to do that?
Thanx in advanced :toast:

I have a unmodded Asus N6600 (AGP) and it clocks to a fairly decent 500/710. It performs about on par or slightly better (except 01) than my old 9800 pro that was OC'd. I did a few runs with it a while back on my backup machine (A64 3000+ @ 2.3ghz) 3dMark05: 3088, 3dMark03: 7297, 3dMark01: 17217. Should do better with some fooling, but have not gotten around to it yet.

Yeah, I originally had some trouble overclocking it over the 450mhz mark. Then I modded the bios to enable to 6600gt temp monitoring trick and fooled with it a little more and poof, got it up to 500mhz. I only run it at 475/675 on a daily basis though.

Geez, that's some impressive clocks.

I got a Xpertvision 6600 with stock everything.
It runs 443/660 with my 2600+ Barton and i get 6100 3d03 marks.
I can put it up to 445/695 before it craps out.

Currently running 440/680 with only the stock heatsink and no direct airflow.

Does the modded BIOS work for all the 6600's?

datasheet

http://www.anpec.com.tw/products/download/APW/Apw7063/APW7063.htm

Vmod for gpu on ASUS N6600 agp is the pin 4 ( FB =feedback ) on the (Synchronous Buck PWM Controller ) APW7063

http://img286.imageshack.us/img286/6121/20050330asus3yo.jpg

http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/3326/apw7063pin9so.jpg

just solder a 10 K ohm Vr to that pin and the other lead in the vr to ground. you can use pin 6 (gnd) of that same ic or a gnd from the molex conector that he card has.

first set the VR at maximum 10 K and turn it down to gain volts.

you can check the vgpu at a cap lead near a small ic at the back of the card,.

I believe that I have the A2 core if I remember right, but I could be wrong. The only thing I did to the bios was extract it using nvflash and used nibitor to enable the 6600gt temp trick and changed my default clocks up to where they tested stable previously. Other than that, I used Riva tuner to disable the internal clock test and overclock. If anyone is interested in a copy of my bios, drop me an email or PM, but it is pretty simple to do yourself.

KingYubbo

Nope.. it's got the A2 core (according to rivatuner)

According to an article i read (which i followed to flash to an Asus BIOS) the Sparkle BIOS overclockers further than the Asus BIOS.... so i would try to get a hold of that one.

http://www.digital-daily.com/video/peredelki/index.htm

That's the article.

~Edit

Also... one more question, has anyone tried BIOS flashing their 6600 to the GT versions of the same brand? eg. Asus N6600, flash to the 6600GT? I might try that with my Xpertvision 6600...

BOBO

Can i flash my A4 card with a A2 bios? or are the GPU's phisically different or somin and therefor not compatible?

KingYubbo
07-14-2005, 09:03 PM
... i don't think so. Your card probably has a different layout... but correct me if i'm wrong.

Anyway, I flashed my card from the Asus BIOS to the Sparkle BIOS. From my Previous max clocks of 470/685, i have reached 511/680 with the Sparkle BIOS.

So i have reached 6600GT core speeds, it's just the memory that needs to be uped. In this test i have used the 80.40 forceware drivers, instead of the NGO 77.72's. NGO's probably give better performance, but I won't be installing them just yet.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/kingyubbo/80.jpg

The best clocks thus far, without video card driver tweaking or windows tweaking. No v.mods, and on stock cooler with stock volts. Everything of mine is generic!!! I like my results :p:

Hi all. I have an Inno3D 6200 AGP. Softmoded it to 6600nonGT with temp sensor enabled. But the problem is, I can't o/c the core pass 430MHz. Ram is at 620Mhz. I had tried voltmoded it and the result is worse. Won't even run stable at 400Mhz. This card doesn't have a molex connector, maybe that's the problem. But I've seen people with the same card having the core clocked 470 to 500MHz without voltmod. Any help is much appreciated!

i can do like 510 mhz with the core and 795 or mayve 800 with the ram...

but at that frecuencies the core cant perform very well. it doens crash. can run 3dmark and else.. but performs pretty bad,

so 440 mhz is the cool spot.. for core.. and 770 mhz in the ram with no artifacts

You should be able to get up to 650-700Mhz on core with volt mod and good cooling but then you will find that memory bandwidth limitations are really bad.

Sadly a lot of pseudo 6600GT's got into this class with GDDR3 and even Sli connectors so that was really a shame :(

Regards

Andy
