I had to reformat my HD I use for the OS on my old junker xp1800 compuker.
And I had a few files on an other drive in it encrypted and now I can't access them?
XP Pro
I didn't use the same info as my persona when I reformated and I don't remember all that anyway. Also I've tried all sorts of stuff to gain access to these files and I have know idea what I have and haven't changed.

If anybody out there has any clues 4 me I'd really be :woot: :toast:   :) :D ;)

Please help this fool, I don't belong to this type of a forum for my computer skills
But it seemed like the best place for anybody to understand my drive for being differant and "Doing it the hard way".
I hoped you all would approve of my building skills and inventive way, because I totally lack in the system skills and am only considered a IT tech, (by the ones with a clue), for having to repair my own systems so often and (they) see it as a skill for some reason and I know it's just my own doings that cause my problems. :fact:

Edit pre post:
My eddress I used when I joined here, @ "myownemail.com" hasn't let me into either of the ones I used there for a week or so now, and I tried to change it here to a more "real", (hotmail) one and that didn't work after a couple tries either,
So if anybody wants to help please don't try to email me.
Have a GREAT WEEKEND! :toast:

This happened to me too, and I'm still looking. Try searching security sites for a decrypter for these kinda things, although i dunno how legal they'd be. :/ Good luck!

Possible reason -

Maybe XP stores some sort of code in the registry (the part that is double hidden and viewable only by a Linux ace and M$ itself) that acts as some sort of key validator.

If so then a repave would wipe that out.

Otherwise you might try a pro. I don't mean a cracker or hacker.

There are firms and freelancers that do this type of stuff. Usually for corporations. They charge very long green and make you jump thru hoops proving it'e your file. That's to avoid becoming an accesory to data theft.

if u had make a backup of ur security-"certificate" while the system was still ok there would be an easy way to restore the data.

but the way things are, ure pretty much :banana::banana::banana:ed.

though i believe the encrypted file system of windows has been cracked before, so there should be tools around that can help u.
