Ok, here's the full story. I got Battlefield 2 a few days ago and I was having a blast, but I also was having some weird graphical glitches. Read around on the net and decided to upgrade my catalyst drivers from 5.3 to 5.6 and this is where all hell broke loose. In the game, mostly when I was using aircrafts, groudn textures started dissapearing to be replaced by just black. At first just a few textures dissapeared, and then almost all of them. And then suddenly the BSOD. The screen just went blue, no text at all. I decided to do a complete reinstall of windows and so I did.
Installed the latest nforce drivers (6.53) (used 6.39 before) and the catalyst 5.6.
Yesterday I played the game for about an hour and I thought everything was cool, because I didn't have any problems.

Now this morning I played some more and this time I was using the airplanes again, which I hadn't the day before and the textures started dissapearing again, resulting in a BSOD to my despair.
I can't make much out of this, except that maybe my graphicscard is getting overheated because of the fact that flying the airplane is the most stressing thing you can do to the computer, in battlefield 2.
But why didn't this happen with the 5.3 catalyst? And what can I do to fix this?

EDiT: I forgot to mention; I haven't OC'd my XL at all.

Lower all CPU/card overclocks. Sounds like you card is overheating or your system isn't stable.

My system is stable. Memtest/prime etc no problems.

Hmm.. ok I wonder if it has something to do with heat then. Sounds more like somethings wrong with the game. Maybe we should alert Dice about this?

That sounds an awful lot like the problem I am having! I almost always see a black square under the tile where people are walking. Lots of texture looking artifacts! I'm using beta drivers though, so maybe I should change to other ones...

That blue screen without error message is a sign of system instability in the memory department. Your mem clock, or mem controller is having stability problems. Memtest86 is not accurate, system can still be unstable while it passes memtest. Prime95 puts most pressure in office environment. The system gets more stressed out when playing 3D... it'll draw more current and cause more voltage spikes. More voltage spikes on the memory leading to instability, same with the CPU and other parts of the system.

I'm using an ol' Cat 4.9 and having no issues... my system is stable, so i get no errors.. no reboots, no BSOD, no Blue screen w/ no error message etc.

So you are saying that my computer has become completly unstable (played bf2 for about 6 hours straight once before) by just changing graphicscard drivers? What do you think I could do to fix this then?

Well you kinda said what to do to yourself right there, try a different driver

okay! I installed the latest omega driver (5.6) and no BSOD now.
I will get back if I get problems.
the game even run smoother with omega driver, no stutter.

The thing is, I uninstalled 5.6 and went back to 5.3 and still had the same problem. I guess I'll try omega 5.6 then..
Holberg: You had exactly the same problems I described?

I guess we'll have to wait, or get older drivers. Is there a program that COMPLETLY removes the current catalyst drivers?

Ok, thanks. I'm running with rad_w2kxp_omega_2625a now (5.4), going to try the game out soon. So far no problems :P
EDiT: Well, the :banana::banana::banana: remains. Game runs very smooth now though with the new drivers :( . Don't know what to do now really... hrhm. I'm thinking IamAnoobieCheez we're having right, but still it doesn't make sense. I'm not having problems in any other games and the fact that I didn't have any problems before 5.6 with the game, except the glitches. Maybe I need to loosen up my VX timings a bit, but since I'm a real noob I don't really know how to do that. Oh well, I guess I'll figure something out.

Dice has now released a patch with the following changelog:

Changelog:

- Fixed in issue that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.
- Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.
- Fixed an issue with increasing performance degradation on servers.
- Fixed a problem with shader caching on client/host : after the first map in a rotation, shaders would be loaded on the fly during gameplay.
- Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB
- Fixed a problem that caused environment mapping to not appear on reflective surfaces. - This may help me? I haven't tested yet.
- Fixed a crash that happened when a client picks up a kit that doesn't exist anymore.
- Fixed a problem with AI when the game was paused for a long time: bots would become unresponsive and also shoot more accurately.
- LOD distances tweaked on certain objects.

i recommend taking off ALL clocks. for some reason bf2 is not clock freindly at all for some people. revert your clocks and see if everyhthing goes normal
