Before I was using the 5.09 BIOS on my DFI NF4 Ultra-D, and most of the time 325 HTT worked fine. Occasionally (and I'm only talking once every two days) it would POST but not boot off any drive. Instead it would just sit there with the blinking cursor until it reset itself. This was with stock cooling.

I tried a different cooler, one made out of copper, intended for P4s, but I modified it to fit on my CPU with some large screws (without the bracket). Once I did that, anything over 300 wouldn't boot.

So I went back to stock cooling (with the bracket obviously), and 325 worked again.

Now I updated to BIOS version 6.23-1, and it won't do 325 anymore. I only got it to boot with it once, where it maintained COMPLETE stability in Windows.

I don't get it. I mean, every time 325 does work, it works perfectly. Not the slightest sign of instability once in the OS. But sometimes it doesn't work. How can a perfectly stable setting work some of the time, and not other times?

Tell me about it, damn demonic schizo board is always having funny turns for no reason. Try moving your case 4.3 inches to the left while standing on one leg with the wind blowing in a south easterly direction, any one of these thing can have a heavy affect on stability.

Try a slower dram response time setting. I had to run the "normal" setting to get over 320htt. It had me stuck at 290htt too with the default "fastest" setting which took me a while to find... I think the old default was "fast" with older bios's.

Just checked, it's set at normal already.

Bah, switched to version 5.10. I don't have an X2 anyway (the fix in 6.23 has mainly to do with them). They work better.
