OK i had my computer running very stable @ the settings in my sig. But since i have a xp-120 and also 2 panaflo fans sitting here not being used i decided i may as well make use of them.

Previously when i was trying to isolate what my cpu could do in terms of fsb/multi i was having a problem every time i took my ram from its 250mhz oc @ timings listed below. So i decided that when overclocking i would use a divider that kept my ram @ around 250mhz with timings of 2-3-3-7. So with a 9:10 divider i easily got my cpu running at 227:250fsb 245:270fsb 252:280fsb @10x multi (2500,2700,2800 repectively) with the said 9:10 div. I kept the settings @ 2800mhz oc and it ran very stable in p95, memtest, games and so forth. Now when i switched to a 5:6 divider at these same settings it would just blue screen. So i decided to get my memory running as close to 250mhz as i could with the 5:6 divider which would be 249mem:300mhz fsb.

Now with the bios settings below i was able to run stable at 300mhz x 9 multi (2700mhz). So i figure my ram is doing fine as so forth. But now that i seem to be able to run a stable 300fsb i want to at least try to get it to run @ 300mhz x 10multi. I tried to my cpu vid from 1.2 to 1.3 to 1.4 and ABOVE VID @ 123% - 126% but it just blue screens.

Here are my details:

I am figuring it is a voltage thing.

I should also update my bios but i see there are 3 or 4 different 510 bios', which should i go for.

I really really doubt that you could acheive 3ghz on air....

yea, sometimes it seems the chip wants to do 3ghz but yeh, always seems like its windows that wont let me since my DFI lets me boot and post well beyond almost 3.1ghz, either that or the chips just start screwing up under load at that point, 3ghz on air for next revision? :-)

I doubt it will do 3.0 on air also but you could try a lil more voltage and try the memory at 2.5 cas instead of 2 just for the hell of it. Might also want to try the 5/10-3 bios with that ram. It helped me with some fsb issues.

Past a point, it starts taking lots of voltage to get stability on air, but with a better fan and that heatsink you can totally do 3Ghz on air, or at least blow something up trying. I have done 2.96 for nearly 1 minute on 1.75, but it takes me about 1.8v to get that stable at idle, and realyl temps are the only thing holding it back. An XP-120 is as badass as air gets these days, and that panaflo is good, but not 3Ghz good. Get 200CFM going over it, or use something frozen to get some really cold air going over it, and it will at least finish the screenshot.

If you want stable 3Ghz on air, wait for winter, or move North of the Arctic Circle.

I live in northern alberta so i guess this winter is fine. Im going to go with a water kit, but first i want to see if this chip can even make it up there, i am of course going to upgrade the chip/hsf and ram in a few months.

Before i ran it 24/7 @ 2500mhz (10x250 @ 1:1 div) i was able to run it at 2750 with a 9:10 div. I didnt want to stay at that because i didnt want to run a divider. Now i have not noticed a big enough difference to warrant me to stay at the lower OC so im going to stick to this for now. I am going to grab the 618 bios tomorrow and see what i can do from there. Yesturday i also put the vcore all the way up to 1.7v in increments and that didnt help at all. when i got past 1.65 it just made it worse. (The difference between 1.65 at 1.7 in tempature at load was load at 45C to load at 60C+. I shut it down before it maxed. Right now at this OC i am running the HS with a low-noise coolermaster fan. With the annoying screen/mesh opening on the side of this case it is way too annoying, also the panaflo vibrates my desk; its not a weak desk either...
