So this GPU is all over the net for the same price as 6600gt agp cards... I need a gaming card for my Dothan, for under $160...

This card is 8 pipe or 12? Openable to 16? 256bit right? What's the story here?

it's 8 pipe, 256bit mem, it is potentially openable to 12 or 16 pipes (depends) and is IMHO a pretty good card. They all seem to overclock quite well, so even if the pipes don't open up (and most people get at least one quad, taking them to 12 pipes) you can normally overclock a lot.

Charlie, from what I understand, almost all are able to get 12 pipes, some 16. Mine went to 12x1, 6vp just fine. Although 16x1 introduced graphical errors, it is still possible to bench with. A 12x1 gaming card for $160 sounds pretty sweet to me!

EDIT: Also, stock Vcore is pretty low....I think 1.2 or 1.3??

1.2v

and very easy to raise, just by using a BIOS editor, potentially all the way up to 1.5v.

Hmmm.... sounds nice.

Open pipes thru RT, I assume... or is a BIOS flash necessary?

Probably games pretty nice :D

$159

The Leadtek HS/F looks decent, too...

Charlie, just wanted to throw my two cents in quickly. I'm using this card in my downstairs machine and its been great. That machine itself has all the CPU power it needs (2700 mhz A64) but even despite that Id say that this card has easily enough balls for any games with eye candy and all that junk, especially with a nice dothan like you've got. It also fully went to 16x1 without problems at all and overclocked quite well in fact. So to answer, yeah, this thing would be great for your usage in that machine. :toast:

12 pipes. pressed luck for 16 as the new ones seem to only do 12 pipes, even the 6800nu. but for $159 you are getting 6800 series which is much better than 6600 and with some good tweaking and a good cpu you can get 12000-12500 in 3dMark03.

For $16 more I can get XFX 6800NU... (newegg refurb)

Better deal?

My 2 cents: I've got this Leadtek 6800LE to. Unfortunetly I had to sell it this week.
Standard: 300/700 8x1p 4v
Mine: 420/920 12x1 6v

With my Atlon XP system I got 11k in 3d mark 03 and 5k in 3d mark 05.
Even I didnt get wat I wanted (16x1), this card is still a lot of bang for bug.
U can open pipes with RT, and overclock it. It's even possible to put ALL overclocking in your bios. So not only upping Vcore, or adjusting frequenties, but also opening pipes en shaders is possible with BIOS mod. It's quit easy to do also. I modded my card to 400/900 12p 6v with BIOS mod, and so when I put this card into a new systeem it's instant overclocked, no need to open rivatuner anymore. Just pop in card, instal drivers, and there u go.

Maybe u could choose the NU. It has more memory (normal 6800NU does, don't know about this XFX), and u might get a better change on 16x1, and the memory should be GDDR3 in stead of DDR for the LE

i heard 12pipes are garantued... And i know some ones who use 16pp,6vp
İn my openion i would buy 6800LE if i need to chose one of 6600GT or X700PRO

and the prices are seemd good to me ? 160$ Very nice...
it nearly 220$ in here TURKEY

Better deal?

Yes take it. I had 2 6800LE's, one was capable of 8*1.6 and one of 12*1.6. Now I have a 6800NU at 16*1.6 The 6800NU give much higher chance to get 16 pipes.

$16 more voor 12*1.5 is worth the guarenteed 12 pipes.

You shouldn't take the asus cards cause the voltage supplying components are crap. Once I set the vcore to 1.3v from 1.2v it went from 1.23 to 1.38 real volts, I think it just can't take the 1.3v at Ocing speeds. Also the memory on the Asus cards seem to do worst than on other NU's (mine too, it is 2.2ns, changing timings didn't help) I also expect the weak caps and mofsets to be the reason for this. It can bench at DDR890 but even gives artifacts at DDR800 is some games.

You should consider the Asus 6800GE, this is a 6800GT 256mb DDR3 with 4 pipes and 1 vertex disabled. I think 256mb is well worth it in todays games and the price for the 6800 cards is really low now. At the same core speeds the 6800NU 256mb beats the 6800GT 128mb often.

i think 6800nu would be the best choice. Leadtek are said to be the most unlockable in the 6800 series (nu and le), and they also have excellent coolers. Nice big copper job.

12 pipes or 16 you just can't just go wrong at that price. With some high volts you can get to 450-460/950-1000

um i think he only wants it for gaming, not serious overclocking.

The Leadtek and Evga cards had good luck flashing to the 12-16 pipes. A while ago there was an article on hwo to hard mod by bridgeing some points.

Edit found the how to mod page : :D

HERE (http://www.pcunleash.com/bbs/zboard.php?id=MyItemReview&no=39)

So you can atleast do a mroe effective way of flashing it if you want. It does work tho. My dad back in the day did circuit boards for Radeon Missiles, and did a card for my friend. We got it to the 6800 GT phase.

Good Luck :)

Really? they are same core. The Leadtek might have a slight edge on the cooling. Either way, both of them id probly put different cooling on, so PNY looks to be the much better deal. And I think the PCB is blue, not fuGGly green

I may try that LE, I need a secondary AGP card for gaming and I might get better ram on that than this stupid evga 6800nu :D

Damn, just saw its refurbished, probably a crappy clocker/no pipes card that got RMA'd :(

the 6800nu is 2.2ns memory. the 6800le is 3.0ns.

my evga n348 (6800le, 256mb, not the limited edition) has 2.5ns memory

and i dont know what the limited edition one has
