probably sometime soon, whenever the 7800 GTX are large enough quantity, nVidia can disable some pipes by masking them, and sell them as 7800 GT's.

I think they'd lower the clocks, no? Dropping pipes seems kinda extreme to differentiate the GTX from the GT, no?

Heck, even a 16-pipe version of this card would be pretty coo ...

Though you would think that would drive their own card off the market (6800 Ultra) ... hmm, interested to see what they do with the GT.

lol, yeah drop the X, and you get GT.

Some online shops say that they have the card stock .

Can you get any sorta NDA end outta them?

Anyway, I think the plain ol 7800 will be 16 pipes and the GT will be 24-pipe at very 6800GT-like clocks.

I love speculation. :)

I"m pretty sure it'll be just a downclocked GTX. Just like the 6800GT's are downclocked 6800U's. Vanilla 7800s will probably have 16-20 pipes.(I say 20 pipes for 7800 and 16 for 7700)

I don't think you guy get what nvidia is doing. They are calling this model the GTX because they MIGHT make a better card just under the ultra called the GT. They are waiting to see how well ATIs card performs before they decide if they will make GT version. Nvidia has used the name TX (XT) to describe lower cards underneath the non ultra versions in the past as a pimpslap to ati (5900xt). They reversed it so if in case ATIs new card isn't as good they can just replace GT with GTX but if ATIs card does require them to make a faster model with more pipes then the GTX will be used in a similar way (going back to 5xxx series here) as the 5900XT or 5900. Both of these guys want to be on the top of performance charts on the high end beacuse it influences their sales from low end to higher range. That is why ATI originally delayed their card from launching in early June. Just think of it as a big chess match now. ATI was originally going to have 24 pipes on the R520 until it got some news about Nvids card and decided to "delay" and see what the G70 was capable of so Nvid decides to call this card the GTX just in case they need something better to compete with ATI after their card is relased. Either way you will probably see high clocked 32 pipe 10 shader cards from both companies. Wether this battle of the giants is good for us consumers remains unknown. It could either give us great cards faster than we expected (think 9700 pro) or it could give us rushed cards that look good on paper but don't perform as well as their numbers (think FX5800u). Either way I think that both comapanies will continue to raise the price they deem acceptable for their highest performing card so that will be a negative effect of all of this.

Edit: I am not sided toward either ATI or Nvidia, whoever wins in games wins my money.

I thought this gen GTX = GT in qulity range with an Ultra comming soon.
Old gen
6800 Ultra
6800 GT
6800

This Gen
7800 Ultra (not released yet)
7800 GTX
7800

IDK, maybe im wrong but i thought they were just throwing an "X" on here to add to the "Xtreme"-ness of the next gen.

hey, who knows, it may be 7800 Ultra Xtreme... marketing strategies...

Like I said the whole surname order of this gen will probably depend on what the other guy is doing

Me thinks it was chopped off ;) The 7800 Vanilla will be 16 Pipes...so it wont score 8k in 05 ... more like 6 to 6.5k .

Vanilla ? I thought we were talking about GT ? And this is OCd to 450/1400, dunno what the stock clocks on that card in the screenshot are ...

If no OC was selected and those were the speeds then I would believe it. Nvidia claims it will offer NO agp support for any of its 7 series cards.

You can get it in Singapore right now. I have seen 3 manufacturers of this card. Inno3D, Asus and XFX. Inno3D is around SGD940.00 and Asus and XFX is around SGD 10**.00. This card comes with Dual DVI and video out. If not mistaken, Asus comes together with the bundle of games such as Splinter Cell: Ghost Theory and Prince of Persia(could not recall what series: is either the sand of time or worrior within). The card is GTX version.

Thanks for the info. longsiew, they must be far from intro'ing it in the US then!

With the BIOS update to fix the cold bug (I'll have enough money for Chilly1 to mod my VapoLS as a GPU freezer soon!!) the 7800GT should be one badass OC'ing card.

I just hope now that they don't charge like $500 for it...
