View Full Version : Optimal 6800 GT overclocks (stock cooling)

Ok. I'm trying to milk my 6800 GT for everything that it has right now. currently, I have it so that it will start up @ 410/1110 (stock is 350/1000). Is this low or do you think I'm pushing it to much? Also, I have found that overclocking it doesn't really do any damage to the card either (since it's just an underclocked 6800 Ultra). The only noticible difference is that the temps are about 5 degrees Celcius higher than normal under load (when idling, it's about 2 above normal).
Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. :woot:

if the card can handle more, you haven't OC'd enough :)
espesially not if your temps stay low

I'm running Rivatuner right now to check the temp max, performance and such. I will post back my findings. As for the OC, I'm not sure how much it can take. I'm about to run a bench @ 415/1115. I guess what I'm trying to ask is what is the best Overclocking ratio (core frequency to memory frequency) and is it better to overclock the core or the memory (if there is a definate answer)? thanks. :bounce:

My PNY geforce 6800 GT can do 440/1100 rock stable in aquamark3, 3dmark2001, and 3dmark03.

If you don't vmod the card, it should be safe to run @ the max clock (without artefacts...)

sorry to hijack but how did you kill your OCZ VX supertimor?

Mine Galaxy 6800GT does 420/1150 . I'm planning to mod BIOS and set the core voltage to 1,4 :)

My PNY does 450/1170 on water.

ok. obviously my OC is a little low on stock. I don't know why though. Anyway, is there any kind of replacement cooling solution for it? if there is, could someone post a link to somewhere so I can look into it? :woot:

My PNY geforce 6800 GT can do 440/1100 rock stable in aquamark3, 3dmark2001, and 3dmark03.
That's another problem. I can run 3DMark03, 05, and Aquamark @ 410/1120 However, if I throw in 3DMark2001 SE it freezes after running about 5 seconds of the test and I can't figure out why. It makes no sense. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Edit: I think I may have figured out my problem. If I OC too much, the system just shuts down, it doesn't artifact or anything. I'm thinking my PSU isn't enough (I'm only running an Antec 350 watt PSU. Doh!) Coming from the voice of experience, could that be the problem?

415/1125 on a PNY with stock cooling (AS5 on the core). It'll bench a little higher, but not much.

My evga 6800gt would do 425/1150 on stock cooling all day long on any benchmark. I could go to 440/1200 on one card and the other one maxxed out at 430/1150 on the same machine. So every card is a little different on what it will clock to on a stock heat sink. If you use coolbits you can use the max clock it will let you set without any real stability issues as long as it doesnt get too hot.

argh! I need a bigger and better PSU. If I set the OC's to high, it actually lowers the score A LOT! but it doesn't shut down the GPU nor does it seem to throttle. I think it doesn't have enough power.
Would anyone be willing to send me a quality 400Watt or 430W PSU? I'll pay up to $30 for a used one in good condition. :)
