View Full Version : Yep, 1.8V is too much for X850XT(PE)...

I was buzzing along happily at 675/642...
1.7V to Vgpu by the VID mod...only need to relocate one resistor...very cool. Stock volts to GDDR3. What a nice OC it was. Then I got the bug....what about 1.8V!? Bad move. I fried the core. Even with watercooling and the full load temperature never went above 38C. Hmm. Well, guess they weren't kidding when people suggested a maximum of 1.7V with WCing. Lesson learned. Although this is #3 dead ATI card for me in the past year. You think I would REALLY learn. Anyway, new ATI X850XT PE AGP on the way from Newegg. Should be here by Tuesday. Gonna prep it and get the ram sinks installed. Hopefully this new one will clock as good or better with 1.7V Vgpu. Seems to me that the 'newer' build cards generally do better as the process improves....although it's always a gamble.

I managed 1.8v on icewater, but really it's too much for that too...
Sorry to hear it, but ain't it just a little thrill to push it til it pop's? :D

I think the only thing that poped on this one was my wallet...

Maxxx - hehehe, don't go above 1.7V unless you want to roll this dice.
I hope the overclocking gods smile upon me with my new card on the way. :p:

I maxed out at 710 core with 1.8V...but only for a shore while...hmmm

OK, I am dumbfounded. The card is back from the dead. After a 30 minute rest with no load it is now operating perfectly at 1.75V at 675/642 (same as before). In fact, this is 0.05V higher than my previous voltage...gonna try to OC more because of that now. But, I have gone from freezing with VPU recover and major artifacting to perfect performance again. I guess I should cancel my order from an hour ago. In any case, this is really weird....

I have been upto 1.67v (with droop to 1.65) with prescott stock coler on it.
Had 67c temp max on GPU and did 666/600 at that volt maybe a little more.
7712 points in -05 with the timings posted in the sticky thread about X8XX.

:D Just also tweaked my card - big THX to SIOUX here from the forums.
Without his help I wouldn't have come so far. Specs in SIG. Temps ~34 idle & ~49 full load.

1,73V was my max on the card, max. temp was about 36°C, but i can't get that
%&%#$& over 650MHz... crappy card! :slapass:

A lot of these X850's (mine included) get issues with 1.8V or so. It's the outdated pwm on the card. It is the exact same circuit that they started using on 9800XT and it just flat out doesn't handle the power consumption at high clocks/volts that these cards demand. Glad to hear your card is back, just sounds like yours is another with a pwm induced limit.
