View Full Version : Radiator in a refrigerator

Ok....so I've been using Asetek Waterchill on a AMD-FX53 with the Antartica block and on a 6800 Ultra AGP8 with the D.D. NV68 for a while.
It's driven by the Waterchill L30 pump and cooled by the Black Ice Pro triple rad.
Temps are ok 30-34 idle and 37-40 load @ 2600mhz, 260mhz x 10. 1.53vcore.
These results (O.C.) aren't the bests ones we've seen and It's mainly because of the Asus A8V D junk that I was forced to buy when I gave up on waiting for DFI, so I will soon switch to PCI-e 7800 GTX and the DFI landparty.
Ok now I'll get to the point, Is it a good idea to have like a small refrigerator and store the rad in there with a few coke botles, and do you guys think it would be loud, because you know I like 'em silent :)
Sorry for any typos.. I'm not an American user !

Bourne, let me be the first to welcome you to XtremeSystems, where we kill our hardware with Xtreme effeciency.
the small friges dont have all the heat load capacity to cool a radiator. it wil overload the frig.

What kind of fridge do you think could be silnet (of course somtimes noise) but could just handle a FX-53 and a 6800 Ultra ?
I'm also thinking of pumping cold water directly into the the block and skip the rad.

you need to check the Chilled Liquid Cooling (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=155) section for that Bourne - it has all your answers there =]

You could build an a/c to watercool that works well and its easy, but not completely silent. The only way to get good performance too kill that would be 2 seperate loops.
Loop 1
--> Pump --> CPU --> BIX3 --> T-line --> Pump
Loop 2
--> Pump --> GPU --> BIX2 --> T-line --> Pump
Then for all your fans find 120mm fans with the most air flow and the maximum amount of noise... Then put them on 5 volt rail. Silent with good performance.

Do you know the DB level of a tornado in 5v....I'm using the Stock Sunon fans at 7v It's very silent, 12v is to noisy.

just stick with ur sunons at 7 volts. its probable that they will push more air at 7v than the tornandos will at 5
bourne, if your still got your heart on that minifridge, as i said before its NOT going to work. there have been ppl on the forums who tried it with COOLER running systems and the fridge overheated... it will do the same thing with ur setup too.. just faster..

Ok. thx
I think I will just conect the tubes directly Into the waterline and pump 1-5°C water onto the blocks
.....the watersupplysystem (dont know you guys call it) in my house is just behind a wall in the room I stay in so it would be easy and cold water is almoust free here.

The Water here is almoust pure, no chlorine and stuff...and It would always be running.

ya... i figured as much.. ull still get deposits... that is unless you got a desalinization tank running in ur house.. but i doubt u got one.. and even if u did it couldnt keep up with ur pump running 24/7

I dont think I'll need a pump just constant flow....
there is almoust no difference between this water and distilled water...
And one more thing I dont know what deposits and desalinization tank meens
:)

Deposits would be from minerals in the water building up, and a desalinization tank is for removing those minerals (I think that is correct).

Mabey it could just check on it once in a month and see if things are in order ;)

I live off well water, and it is pretty good stuff. I do also have a purification system for drinking water, but the tap is fine.

Im a bit late here.
I just wanted to say that I wouldnt update to a 7800 GTX until the 7800 Ultra and the x900 line come out.
Looks too expensive now, the peformance increase isnt that great, and they dont OC very good.

Jepp....U got a point I was actully thinking about this....
I will perhaps wait.....ATi Said X900 would have triple performance over X800 XT.
But the thing is my father works a lot in the US and when he goes there I sometimes ask him to pick up stuff becouse a 7800 GTX is at 1100$ here.
So when someone I know goes there I got use the opportunity :)

well, it has a cold bug if you ever want to chill it.
I wouldnt rush myself on buying this card when nVidia and ATI are waiting on whos going to be the first to throw their flagship card. The specs on the 7800 Ultra and x900 look a lot more impressive with those 36 pipes. Could be a huge bump in peformance since its 1/3 more pipelines, 512mb, and higher clock speeds

Bourne, what's your room temperature? Can't be that cold in there! :)
I'm not getting what you meen
...and Maxxxracer.....I asked around and people said desalinization tank was not needed.... pure Water :)
I mean... if your water temperature is lower than your room temperature there's gonna be condensation on your tubing and around waterblocks and elsewhere... You know... drops of water... not good for your hardware in the case. :)
Just not sure how much lower water tep needs to be in order for the condensation to occur. Also humidity has affect on it. Greater humidity - less temp difference needed for condensation to occur.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here... or please give some more details on temp difference regarding condensation.

aca - you are referring to the 'dew-point'
this is the temperature at which the atmosphere at a given pressure cannot retain the water-vapour and condences into water-droplets
you can usually find out what the dew-point for any given day is from the weather forecast

You mean I could calculate the dew point if I know the temperature and humidity for a given day? Or weather forecasts already give the dew point?

btw how cold is the water and what is ur room temp?
you guys must have some really good water to not need any tretment right from the tap. i know around here you need to filter itl ike 10 times to get it clean.
Bourne
06-27-2005, 03:16 PM
My room temp is 20°C+- and the water is 8-4°C but 5°C and lower if it is running for a long time.....
and yes the Icelandic water is know for being the purest in the world.
MaxxxRacer
06-27-2005, 03:32 PM
wow... well 4C is about as cold as the water willl get before it starts to get less dense. if you can hold the water at 4C thats great as water is as dense as it gets at 4C and will transfer heat slightly better than if the water will a little colder or a little warmer. though the differences are very slight...
I'd say you will need to do some condensation proofing on the tubing and probably the block if your going to be running water that is that cold...
And I wasnt aware u were in iceland.. I know of icelandic water.. From what i hear it is pretty amazing stuff.
btw, beautiful country. would love to visit there sometime. home to the worlds first hydrogen gas station.

but iceland does have one thing very iniquie about it. you can trace the blood lines of ppl back for more than a thousand years, and get a huge family tree that goes back almost to when the vikings landed there.
