I don't know what the deal is. First i download the demo, install it, try to open it, it goes fullscreen black (like normal), then after 3 seconds or so, goes back to desktop with a smaller screen in the corner, then disappears. Happens with the retail version too. Can anyone help me out, I'd REALLY like to play =\

Sounds like a memory related issue try knockin your VX down several mhz or simply run your system at stock and see what happens.

really? odd...everything else works perfectly for it. I'll give it a go in a few
It has some weird bug with ATI cards.. I am guessing it's driver related. I tried it on X700 before and it plays but when exited, you cant started it again and your screen gets set to same resolution of the game. You have to reboot to get it to run again. What you described sounds like incompatible shader as well, although I don't see how that can be with a X800.

Even at default settings it does it. Maybe a driver update? I'm still using 4.12's

5.6 fixed my problems from 5.5, a driver update is definitely recommended.

I think it could be these 3 problems:
1) Go to RUN and type DxDiag and check that everything is ok
Try running some Direct 3D and Direct Draw tests to see if everything is running ok.
Check that Direct 3D and Direct Draw are activated.
Im guessing you are up to date with DirectX 9.0c
2) It could be a refresh lock problem. Check that your monitor is not being controled by a software (Unless its a LCD that is setup with software)
3) It could probably be a CATALYST bug because of installing it correctly.
Make sure you uninstal -> reset -> close all background files -> instal -> reset, and you are done
