I just wanted to get people's opinions and suggestions with regards to buying memory for a new PC.

Many people say that you don't need more than 1GB of memory if PC Gaming (which is what I do mostly). Since 512MB modules have lower latencies and higher clocking potential, then 2x512MB modules of low latency high performance RAM is the best choice.

However, when building a system today, I'm assuming games of next year will require more and more RAM. So wouldn't going 2x1024 be a better option, even though it doesn't overclock as well? I'm thinking something like OCZ PC3200 Platinum 2x1024MB with 2-3-2 timings, or Mushkin's PC3200 High Performance RAM with similar specs.

Also, I guess a 3rd option is buying 4x512MB of high performance memory.

What do you guys think? If building a new system today, what would buy? I welcome all opinions on specific brands & models of RAM... because I'm not sure which one to get.

Thanks,

Salahuddin

Damn man did you have to post 3 threads about the same thing? :slapass: :stick:

That should be fixed in a while or two.

Lets get on with the discussion (Finally ) . Sal, you CANNOT keep posting threads on a topic...There are guidelines when making new threads, and of the many, one of them is making sure there arent any other threads on the same topic, and another is making sure you dont make more than one ON the same topic.

Pls adhere to these rules next time.

Thx.

Sorry guys... didn't realize I posted 3 threads? Er... where are the 2 other threads and how do I delete them?

Unless you're including my questions in the previous thread I started. I just wanted to start a poll and make it exclusive to memory alone. I apologize again if its against the rules. I won't do it anymore :(

Personally, I would go with the 2x1GB if you must have 2GB of memory. 4x512 is a real pain in the ass, as I've discovered with multiple AMD64 systems.

4x512 results in lower timings remember. Was it 2T timings? I remember Venice/SD improved some things about 4 sticks of RAM, but not as good as 2 stix.

I'd still prefer the flexibility of 4 sticks vs 2 sticks.
