"THE LITTLE birds of summer have told me that dual core processors will arrive in force in Great Britain - and probably in Europe very soon, in the third week of June, ah, that's next week. That's confirmed by a number of master distributors here in the UK.
There seems to be a clear preference for AMD products in ordering. Orders have already been passed and shipments have already been made for the 4200+, 4400+, 4600+ and 4800+. The resellers whom I have spoken to have confirmed that there might be some restrictions on quantity in the beginning but that availability would improve depending on demand. Chris from Scan said that it would be one of the first to stock the AMD parts while Dabs and some others are a little more enthusiastic about AMD than Intel. But the mama of all distributors or at least one of the largest, Ingram Micro told us that they have ordered quite a lot of Pentium D 820 parts and that they will stock all the Intel Dual Core SKUs - 820, 830, 840 and 840EE. We have also got confirmation from sources outside the company that IM is going to start selling AMD parts in UK by the end of July.
Note that Intel Dual core parts are already available and ready for delivery. We've got some retail prices to give you and you will find out by yourself that they are actually cheaper by some margin, than AMD's own selling prices. As usual prices go up and down, right and left, so always check before you buy.

Other places where you will be able to buy the parts include: Barratt and Wilders, Vadim, Wehavethings, Scan, OCUK, CPUcity. wehavethings. Don't forget to factor in the cost of the motherboard if you are planning to buy one of those babies. You will be very lucky to get a 955X motherboard for less than £110+VAT while the cheapest socket 939 board - which should be compatible with any X2 prouct - costs £41.49+VAT.
One thing that should not elude you is the fact that the X2 4800+ will cost just slightly less than an Opteron 850 which will make it one of the most expensive mainstream CPUs in the UK. I expect the 4200+ to be the first to quickly vanish from SKU's as the price delta between it and the 4400+ is quite small. Also as you can see from the above, barring some unforeseen circumstances like typos, Komplett is currently the place to go for DC, at least in the UK."
