A German news-paper reported that Advanced Micro Devices is planning to build yet another fab in Germany. This would be the third plant for the chipmaker in Saxony, if the report turns out to be correct.

:woot: why not in hamburg? :D
hope this helps to increase their output and lowers prices.

...and saaya's chances of "getting connected". :D
AMD prices are just fine, but if they have more market share I suppose they can lower it a little more, I don't think bying intel makes sense now.. so then it should be absurd.
FAB 36 will work at 65 nm with 300 mm wafers so this makes about three times the capasity it has now with fab 30 only. From next year amd will be able to supply much more cpus at much lower production cost. If they build another fab in just 2 years and reorganize fab 30 which will be outdated by then AMD should have no problem supplying more than 50% of the world's CPUs. But they don't plan such a market share, lets hope there will be demand. If intel and amd split market 50-50 the fight will be most pleasent to us end users :)

Why an earth they build all to Germany ?
I don't get it..

They said why - germans have discipline. Also a "made in europe" CPU sounds better than "made in taiwan" CPU, thou 90% ot the semiconductor is made in taiwan.

Tax exemptions and 100s of millions € subsidies from state government might have an influence on this decision :P Anyway, what is your problem with germany?

Germany blows, they need to put that fab39 here in belgium ,preferably right behind my house, then I'll be REALLY connected :p:
No offence germanyboys ;) It'd be cool to have FAB in belgium though, you already have 2 , be silent, SUSH

I was just thinking that all in the same country is kind a odd..
Might make shareholders think that they are too friendly with the germans or something.. :)

Europe doesnt have technology, that's why Germany is paying AMD to bring it to them.

Why don't we have technology? :p:

There was fab in my country some good old days. And there were technologies that nobody could overcome. But that sadly is in the past. I`m glad that AMD builds fabs in Germany and not in China. So the products will be more qualitative. And more Athlons could be well OCed.

From what I heard, the original Fab 30 was put in Dresden because there were a ton of east german scientists out of work after the USSR collapsed. Lots of pre-trained, talented workers :)

Das is the ultimate troll.
Grrrrr...
But i admit that US makes more money out of "high tech".
ps. European tech at it's best is SOOO high tech that even hollywood screenwriters can't produce it.. :D

All I know about Germany (only being there once) is that they are very strict in the way they work. If they miss something but just a little, they will work until they fix it, or make a new one.
