Hi, I'm looking for the Vdimm + VTT mod for Albatron KX18DS Pro motherboard (please note it's not KX18D model VMEM MOD (http://www.malvescorner.net/kx18.html). These 2 models are very similar but KX18DS is shorter [doesn't have 9 screws])

Does U358 have 8 pins? Anyway you can get a close up pic of it?

If it does have 8 pins, can you check voltage readings on pin 1 and 7?

Now I read the letters w/ a flashlight

The IC is
LM358
44A

Already edited the first post...

Please tell me which pins to check voltage readings.

Thanx

pin 1 and pin 7. Also, try to find the vdimm FET - those 2 close to the dimm slots.

I'll measure the others voltages tomorrow because i'm going to have to remove the motherboard from the case.

What about Direct Vdimm mod (conecting 3.3V from PSU)? Is it the same in all boards?

I never recommend vdimm=vio mod. LM358 is the chip we want for the mod. I just need those reading to tell you the pin for the mod and the trimmer value.

HI,
Does this board run off the 5v rail like the KX18D?

Thanks,
mike

LM358:

PIN 1 : 5.8V
PIN 7 : 5.5V

Weird voltages. Pin 1 is where the ic has a little circle and a stripe right?

Is this correct?

For the CPU?

Yes.

HI,
I was interested as I have Vdimm modded two KX18D per MALVES scholarship.
They work off the 5V rail and will go as high as the PSU produces. I have not been able, recently, to obtain more KX18D's so I am interested in the "DS" model like you have.

When you are sucessful, I will buy a couple and try it out:D

[I am working on a Gigabyte GA7N400L today:D]

Can you check the resistance between pin 2 and ground, and pin 6 and ground please.
If you want to find out which voltage the Vdimm supply is supplied from, check the voltage at the rear tab of the Vdimm MOSFET.

Resistance:

PIN 2 + Ground = 2.4K
PIN 6 + Ground = 0 ohm

Mosfets voltages:

These 3 points are VDIMM Check points:

Try connecting a 50k VR between pin 2 and ground. Decrease resistance for more voltage. It looks like the Vdimm is supplied by the 3.3v rail, so you will have to increase your 3.3v rail if you want to run high Vdimm.

Thank You Malves

I'll try the mod as soon as my 25 turn pot arrives.

How is this board different from the KX18D Pro II?

How is this board different from the KX18D Pro II?
it equipped with MCP-RAID southbridge
so it's not using a Sil Image anymore to host the SATA drive
afaik the CL timing in BIOS cant be more aggressive than 2,5 (not like the KX18D Pro which has the CL 2 option in BIOS)
anyone know the link for modded BIOS to enable the CL2 timing?

David Coleman

no CL2? That's really strange!
What are the Vdimm options?

What are the Vdimm options?2.7V
2.8V
2.9V
3.0V

And no CL2 : (

If you run BH5 or TCCD at SPD does it run CL2?

Those are the same vdimm options as the KX18D Pro II.

even when we run SPD for those sticks of memory, CL wont tighter than 2,5
except if we Cbid-ed them to CL2 (under windows)

David Coleman, in the Albatron forum they said if the memory is CAS2 by SPD it will run at CAS2. Mine UTT is CAS2.5 by SPD so I can't test.

One interesting thing is that CPU-Z reads CAS2-3-3-11 when I set CAS2.5-3-3-11
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=23036

wedfighter, how do you change CAS on by software? I thought it could not be changed after the memory count.

Hello, I finally did the mod but it didn't work. VDIMM voltage remains the same when I decrease resistance.

I tried connecting the VR 50k in pin 2 of LM358 and ground, the board booted fine but VDIMM did not increase. Then, I tried Pin 6 and Ground, same thing happened...

What model/revision is the board??

edit, I see in the first photo that it is a "DS", I don't believe the vmod works on that model. The plain"D" does, as I have modded several.

mike

I just realized that I had replied to this thread a long time ago, it's rough getting old:D

Shouldn't matter what model the board is as long as the regulators are the same.

I re-checked the resistance and voltages:

LM358
PIN2 + GND: 2.5k
PIN6 + GND: 100 Ohm

PIN1: 5.9V
PIN2: 3.0V
PIN3: 3.0V
PIN4: 0.0V
PIN5: 3.6V
PIN6: 3.6V
PIN7: 5.4V
PIN8: 12.0V

Is that the right VDIMM chip?

The mod that I did on my KX18D was to place the trimmer between pins 3&6.
This was according to Malves mod on his site.

http://malvescorner.net/kx18.html

The IC you are working with on your board is a LM358, the one on the KX18D is a RT9202. My information is not of any value to your board.

Maybe some one with recent electronic experience will come by and help out. My technology is from the late 60's and I never worked as an engineer:(
