It seems that G70 (or 7800GTX) might actually be available at launch, in some privileged stores, of which Overclockers UK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7800_Series.html) very well might be one of them.
We asked around among partners and distributors and it turns out that some very special Nvidia customers might have some cards for sale at the day of the launch.
...
Some shops will have the cards immediately and we believe that UK based Overclockers might be one of them.
Nvidia seems to be looking to change how official releases are done, hope this new concept will last. At least in this case it might be of extra important to be a full month ahead of ATi for ovious reasons.

On a side note The Inq is holding on to the claimed ~7800 3DM05 score for 7800GTX, while they in another article (http://www.theinq.com/?article=23977) report new drivers are emerging for the 7800GTX, 77.62 would be their name.

The Inquirer: Geforce 7800GTX, G70 to be available at launch (http://www.theinq.com/?article=23976)

Well, considering the results we've seen so far, there perhaps won't be such a rush afterall. While, as you say, this probably sounds more than is - as everything in this business.

Then again, who knows? We can always hope! ;)

There's this one guy on a forum saying nVidia will release a 90nm. That doesn't suprise me, but what does is that he's saying the "refreshed" G70, the 7800 Ultra, that will counter-attack R520's "winter release" is a 32-pipe G80. I was under the impression the Ultra would be a faster-clocked on 90nm and be G75 or something, the Ultra would still be 24 pipes, and G80 would go against the R600. Any idea?
