I've been reading these forums for a while, but until just this week I hadn't joined. Because of XtremeSystems I've been convinced I want to start up an OC'ing project and here's what I have so far

DFI Lanparty UT NF4 utlra-D 939
AMD Athlon 64 3000 Venice
1gb dual channel OCZ EL Platinum revision 2

I also found and already purchased a chieftec dragon case and ultra 500W modular PSU from tigerdirect (combo package), which leads me to my question. I've read
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=101722&postcount=34 regarding psus, but I want to do things right... so...here's the question.

The ultra came with a 20 pin ATX mobo cable (since it's a modular psu). I was just going to return it based on the link above, and buy an Antec smartPower sp-500 when I decided to call ultra. They told me this physical power supply is the same as their 24 pin power supply, they just replace the 20 pin modular ATX mobo cable with a 24 pin cable, and all the voltages are right. They confirmed that the 24 pin modular power supply that they do sell (native) is the same as the one I bought just with a different cable. Now... based on the link above, does this meet the 24 pin psu ATX mobo cable, since this is not a 20-24 pin converter? And what's the thoughts on my equipment selection?

dfi says you MUST have 24pin as a safety precaution so no adapters, just plane out and simple the real deal 24 pin.....

Hey Action Jackson,

Firstly, :welcome: Welcome to XtremeSystems :D :welcome:

Secondly, that DFI Street thread is by far one of the most arrogant I've read...there's more than one way to send the message...its when they cant manage the 24/20 pin situation with customers that they choose that tone of voice...dissappointing and rude to say the least.

Thirdly, I'd definitely return the ULtra if not because of the 24-pin then because its just not an all round good psu...will not be stable at high OCs...Any antec that has 500w and a 24pin connector is great...though I'd go with Enermax/OCZ Powerstream, Fortron, or PCP&C powersupplies for the best performance.
