I have a new enermax PSU here that i am using for D2OL and it gets hot!!!
After 12 hours of D2OL it was at 55C so i added an extra fan to it and now it is at like 53C.
is this too hot for a psu?
I want to RMA it before it melts on me.

The maximum output just decreases when the temperature is higher. So let's say if you have a 500W psu and it's running at 80 degrees C it might blow if you get above 400W or so.
Every psu has a Watt rating at a certain temperature. If you only draw 200W from a quality 500W psu at 80 degrees C it might be just fine while if you'd done the same with a 250W psu it would have burned out.

With a supply getting this hot, either there's an issue with the fans, the supply itself, or the case. Start boosting in-case airflow so it's not acting as a furnace exhaust.

The case is open and i attached a 3rd fan to the back of the PSU to cool it down.
PSU is an Enermax 370W V1.3 with 2 fans
There is also NO gfx card in the system!!!
just an Athlon XP-M@2733Ghz
256mb RAM
30GB 7200RPM HD
and a DIY H2O system
That is ALL!!! :stick:
Thw system runs 100% stable i just think that with the PSU at those Temps. it will severly shorten its life

:ROTF: Although i may not have a new all powerful enermax psu (i have 365w) i just leave mine on silent all the time. I prefer the heat to it being too loud.

I have had an Enermax PSU 350W, it burnt.
It was modded whit a papst from the company.
The dealer dont sell it anymore, i wasn't the only one that had the problem.
No Enermax for me anymore.
And yes it got very very hot.
I have a Chill 400W now, and when i put my hands on it, i cant feel a thing, it's silent and have a nice temperature.

I forgot the important stuff.
Chill is stable on all lines, and delivers the goods.
I dont think you can get it in US, it's a danish PSU.
They have two, one 400W , and a 510W.
I have a "powerfull AMD system" and it dont complain at all, just do it's work, quiet and at a decent temperature.
The enermax started to heat up the moment i booted, and were noisy, and finally gave in.
