I'm sure a couple people have read or heard about this fan. Well just bought it for the grand prix contest, should have it in a couple days. I'll see how it works with my scythe ninja. I'll try and do a review for the front page with the fan since its soooo xtreme ;)

I think a good fan controller will be enough. :)
Really looking forward to seeing your results. Good luck with that thing, and try to keep enough distance between the fan-blades and your fingers and other body parts while the fan is spinning. :D

What is it about fans and putting your finger in them? Everyone seems to have done it at some point, it's like moths to a flame.
Look forward to seeing the feedback on that, may your ears forgive you :p:

I have one of these. They're loud but its not too bad. I prefer the sound quite a bit over an 80mm Tornado - thats for sure.

What? Its 65dba , a 80mm torny is like what? 55dba right? So how do u prefer the 120mm which is 65dba over a torny that is 55dba?

Alright just got it today too bad I dont have anything to test it on just yet missed the FedEx guy today, so I have to wait till 4 to go pick up my new stuff. As far as noise is concerned its alot more tolerable than a 80mm tornado totally different pitches. This fan kind of sounds like a hair dryer on high. I'll post results later tonight of it compared to a 94cfm fan hopefully the results will be worth the temporary heating loss :D

Nah, you want one of these (If I had 26v to feed it, I'd be happy).

Pushes about 120CFM@12v, n it's a LOT quieter than my 80mm Delta SHE or 120mm EHE :D
It's a PApst 172x150mm, and that's a Delta 80mm EHE on top for comparison :stick:

Did you get at least basic fan grills to go on that thing? I got clipped by one down to the bone in my index finger.... 9 stiches and the tips down plastic.
That's absolutely nuts...

I think you could also buy a set of earplugs with it... Sound is only measured without obstacles, in open air, so it'll probably go over 65db with ease.
At least I know what that kind of fans sound like. I've got a Papst 80mm fan myself, it pumps around 45cfm through my room and it already makes a d*mn noise...

put 3 of those on yourself and you can fly hellas :D

You know what i noticed? You get used to the noise, like when i got 2 deltas that were at 40dba, it was driving me crazy, but i got used to them. THen when i took them out, it was like my computer is the most silent pc on earth.

Sorry to tell you, but nearly 2.5A and 12V gives roughtly
30W, and not 15, like the rheostat's rating. If I'd run that Delta with a 15W rheostat, I'd keep a fire extinguisher near me. :D A rheostat converts the power from the voltage regulation directy into heat. That's why this rheostat would most likely go up in smoke. If you ran the fan at full speed, there wouldn't be a problem, but if you turn the speed down, the power that would get dumped directly into the rehostat would make it catch fire, if you are out of luck.
The simple solution would be to build a simple and very cheap fan controller (for let's say 5A). It's really not hard and you could control the fan without a problem from 0 to ~11.5V. I'd prefer a non-PWM solution.

My friend has one of those. Maybe he should stay away from it. I don't want his system going up in flames.

Normally, you wouldn't take a rheorstat in the first place to regulate high wattage fans like that (reason explained above). If you feel that you need to take a rheostat for that purpose then be sure not to take a model rated lower than the fan. For a 30W fan like the delta, me personally, I would take at least a 50W rheostat, to have headroom, because when you turn on the fan, it needs more power for a short period of time.
But as I said, for 30W, a rheostat is no good normally.
There are plenty of guides online for selfmade, very cheap fan controllers.

By the way, if you try to tame a Delta, they buzz. I don't recommend it. Thats why I decided to get a SUNON KD1212PMB1-6A. It does around 108 CFM at only 42dBA, which is quieter than many good quality fans with lower CFM. I'll be happy with 108CFM. :)
