Hi all, specs of the comming DX rig:
Total specs:
PC DL Deluxe
2X 1.6GHZ LV Xeon clocked to as far as they'll go on normal volts (PSU is a bit on the low end)
1x 200GB Seagate 8MB Cache UDMA 100 7200RPM
1x 80GB Maxtor 2MB Cahce UDMA 100 7200RPM
1Gb Twinmoss RAM @ 200MZH 5-2-2-2T or 230MHZ 6-3-3-2T
9800PRO @ 430/393MHZ
1x Lite ON Dual Layer DVD -RW
1x 52x BenQ CD Rom

Chieftec 350Watt PSU

Now what I wonder, I Have Windows 2003 and Windows XP pro here to my disposal. I'm gonna install a dual boot anyway for gentoo also, but I need advice on windows.

I still wanna be able to play games but also do 3DsMAX work, Photoshop 7, Audio editing, some video editing for fun,...... and crunch off course. Now I'm wondering what the best OS for the overall performance would be. Take into account the gaming and the need of compatibility with 3DsMAX and such...

What do you guy's think?

i personally would say use windows xp but thats just me. 3ds max is compatible with it and just about any other program you can find can be run on it as well.

Using dbench I benchmarked my DX system with Win2003, Win2000 and XP and 2000 scored the highest and 2003 the worst. XP and 2000 were pretty close though.

350 watt PSU... cheiftech? PLEASE get a new PSU before running it. That is such a nice rig you're going to have and I'd hate to see your PSU blow it all up :(

yhea I know, but problem is, i can't afford a OCZ PSU. Otherways I'd take the 420powerstream but I need money for my laptop which is a must for school next year. So thats 1800 euros I can't spend. Could you advice me with another PSU that is good? I know OCZ is the best but ..... money is an issue at the mo.

edit:
I can chooce PSU's out of these 2 lists only since they are my local shops.
I do have one other 300Watt PSU lying around so I can try to sell both for like 30 euros but .... that aint much. On a bright side I have my birthday comming up next month so ...

Fortron/FSP or Sparkle (with "FSP" in the model)

They're all the same company pretty much.. almost server grade stuff, and cheap.
