Hey guys. Can someone explain why this is happening to one of my clients?

My company provides a website for clients to use, but this particular client cannot access a particular area of our site when using Windows XP Pro, but the application opens and works in Windows 98.

Basically, the client clicks a link that launches a javascript based app where they can retrieve documents. As seen in the screenshot, frames aren't fully loading, and the screen says he has documents to view, but they aren't listing.

Below is a screenshot. You can see that the banner is half loaded and the documents list won't display. Any ideas?

I directed him to install the lastest Java Virtual Machine from Sun...but that didn't work. Is that the same thing as you mean?

This exact problem happens on all 20 XP machines he has.

I can't remember now...but I think he has SP1...oh, and it also happens with 2000. Here is what I pulled out of his email:

"We seem to only be having problems with your site when using a computer running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. We don’t have these problems when using a Windows 98 computer. I did that exact same procedure on a Windows 98 computer and had no problems opening the document. "

Yes, it is very strange. We have thousands of 2000 and XP users and I have never seen this before. I know it is something in his network or system, but I can't go on site to look at it...and even if I could, I probably wouldn't be able to pin it down.

Looking at the screenshot, it looks like he has a Mcafee security symbol in the task bar...I wonder if that is it. I just don't know what setting would be in there, but I bet all the PC's have it...including the 98 machines, but they aren't affected.

Since it is a blanket problem across ALL of the computers, I doubt it is a toolbar, but it must be an anti program as you say.

Only, what settings in the anti program would cause this?

well as u know ie in 98 and in 2k/xp is totaly diff.

but that's a start............ ;)

i'd start by checking the 2k machine(not xp one) and disable all security things

Yep...the IE versions are also an issue.

Another problem is that the IT guy they have won't try some of my suggestions, since he says they won't work or he has tried them.

I can't get a base line to even start with.

ask him if it happens on new install pc and then u'll see that it's something IT is doing to the comp.

2nd is i meant when i said 2 ie from system integrity, ie in nt is more isolated and stand alone program so u can more intervine between him and the os (e.g. antixxx, toolbars)
