OK, the nF4 chip on my board is chipped, damaged on the lower right edge.

Looks like it was factory damaged, probably the installation of the HSF was done by only ONE pushpin at a time, what may have damaged the nF4 chip.

I haven't turned my mobo on yet so I don't know if it's working or not, will check monday or when I get a PCI-E card...

RMA it, if it's broke brand new don't even risk it.

Like I said before RMA it, no point in taking the chance unless you have to.

As I don't have a digital camera, can you provide me some inside shots of the core so I can identify what has been damaged, I mean something like this :

@ReelMonza

Why do you really bother with that now? Wait until you actually fire it up and then see. Only because chipset has a chipped corner doesn't mean it's not functional, as it might have been only it's packaging that is slightly damaged. Besides, If you even haven't fired it up yet at all, why did you remove the heatsink?

Anyway, wait until you get to start it and see how it works. Or RMA it now, but I'm not sure what RMA Dept will say about it. Maybe they will tell you that because you removed a heatsink, you voided your warranty or that maybe you chipped it :)

I removed cause I was going WC it and I always replace the stock hsf of all the boards I buy and I've never had any problems.

Do you think a chipped corner could hinder system stability ?

You'll only know it once you turn it on, it's impossible to say anything, maybe if you post a pic of that... BTW, i had a winnie running perfect with a corner damaged (IHS off).

just tell them when you opened the box, the heatsink wasnt connected to the mobo, and it looks liek the core got chipped.

its still a Lie... but it sure beats most of the people's lies on this forum about RMA issues.

I don't think so, i think it would freeze eventually, dont boot, but not frying anything... :stick:
