When one drops the CAS latency from 2.5 to 3, how much of a memory speed can one expect as a potential increase. on average. i know that all kinds of memory are different, and one can expect different results.

I have generic ram, branded bt-5. I find i can do 2.5 / 235mhz (ie. ddr470). but i cant do 3.0/250.

is this normal? it is at 2.7v. Which other latency settings could i drop to get the memory fsb up? I'm limited to 2.8v max because of my board. system in sig.

and btw, CPU-z reports, at its current speed (208.3), that CAS is 3.0, when it is set to 2.5 in the bios

It's better to keep the tighter timings than to increase the cas to something like 3. You should just put up a divider so that you can keep your ram at near it's max without exceeding and let the fsb and cpu soar.

watch out, it may not even boot if its winbond chips

well, after trying for 2.5-3-3-11, 250, 1T, @ 2.8v, i got a cmos checksum error. and it wouldnt fix. out of chance eventually, it booted.

I was using a 333 divider to make the ram @ 208, 2.5-3-3-11, 1T. But i want to try and get 1:1. it is cheapie bt-5 ram (well thats what the last digits are).

though all i want, no matter what latency, is 1:1 (ie. 250mhz memory). even with slow timings. but doesnt like to boot with memory speed set to 400mhz.
