Sa Vaa!
Anyone see Sin City around here? Saw it today with some mates, excellent film I must say. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with the comic on which the film is based on, however the theatrical production was excellent. Both as a film, and as a great form of entertainment for 4 guys who haven't seen anything since Dodgeball as they found it to be the "worst movie evar".
We spent most of the time shouting at the cinema random comments such as "Go Rory!" (Alexis Bledel from Gilmore Girls), "Damn she be fine" (Black and white + makeup make Jessica Alba irresistable), "Yes, 2nd base Bruce!" (Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis make out - we felt bad for bruce we know him best from films where he eiter: a):banana::banana::banana:s someone up b):banana::banana::banana:s someone c) both) and other comments which would most likely be found offensive by the large majority of the world's female population.
Shortly put, we found it to be the best movie either of us have seen all year. Not only was it excellent as a movie, but the girls made it all better :D Even Frank Miller spoke rather bluntly on the topic of hot girls :D
Well spent 10 USD. Unfortunately this movie will also leave you walking home in the rain thinking no matter how hard you try, Ms. Alba will never retutn your calls :(

I wasn't shouting during this one, but it was an incredible movie. I wouldn't be surprised if its the best movie to come out this year.

The best movie either of you saw this year when you haven't seen anything since dodgeball which came out in 2004? I'm not really surprised you think it's the best movie of the year if you haven't seen any others. And you don't shout at the cinema!! :nono: Have had enough of people like that. Unless ofcourse you were alone at the cinema you're alright.

it was good but i would HARDLY call it the best movie of the year. ive seen every decent move that has come out this year and I can safely say it is far from the best.
for instance the recently released Cinderella man was a much better film.

I've seen plenty of this years movies. If you're implying that I don't know anything about movies, go ahead and tell me which movie was better. :stick:

There were 6 people in the cinema in total.
p.s. It is/was the biggest cinema hall in Denmark, so people were about 50m apart.

In Denmark comics are not very popular, disregarding the latest Pokemon/Digimon etc. craze. They simply do not have the same status as in the US.
Some of the reviews critized the film terribly, however I found it brilliant. The atmosphere of a comic was brought across brilliantly, the noir atmosphere could be felt greatly.
A masterpiece really, I did not expect them to pull it off this well. I found myself thinking of MaxPayne as well :p: The cinematography was excellent, and even funny at times (though perhaps for the wrong reasons).
Favourite movies:
UHF
Bachelor's Party (1989 with Tom Hanks)
Major League Baseball series.
Perhaps not the most refined taste, however I see movies pre-dominantely as a source of entertainment, not art. Sin City however was ART.

nonoon princes mononoke isnt a bad movie, but the story is a ripp off of several other movies/manga series/comics its not a bad movie, but i wouldnt give anybody credit for ripping apart other stories and just throwing it all in a mixer, even if the resulting long drink tastes nice :D
juliette, from what ive heard its more than art, its art yet still a great movie! the two dont go along very well most of the time :D

I've seen the movie to. I realy liked the mayx payne style. But, is was just plain action. No further thinking. Basicly it was WOOW, nice, and the day after u forgot allready half of it. Maybe it's because I didn't see first ten menutes :p
Well, I saw them day after, but it didn'y quit chance my feelings about this movie.
Great, but not super.
I saw Million Dollar Baby some time ago and I must say I liked that movie alot more. First the Rocky style boxing but then ending up dead. I didn't suspect something like that when I was choosing what movie I was going to see that evening. A movie like that always makes me think about what is most improtant in live because some times live can be rather shorther as you may want it to be.

I've watched this film 3 times now, and I cant fault it. Sure there is some unadulterated cheese in parts, but it just adds to the look and style they were aiming for. The cinematography looks fantasist, defiantly verging on art, and perfectly complimenting the comic book style the directors were going for. And on the subject of directors, Rodriguez (desperado, el mariachi) and Tarantino (need I list), you honestly cant do much better, and they havnt failed on this master piece.
Gore, hot women, kicking ass, and artful shooting……if you havnt seen it then what are you doing…..go…..go now.

You mean the comedy with Charlie Sheen? If so, we just call it Major League.
Do they show these movies in english at your cinema, english with subtitles, or do they dub them into (dutch?)?

u should see this movie if you're a fan of max payne... that heavy voice, black and white stories.. just incredible!!
if "eternal sunshine of the spotlessmind" counted as 2004 movie, and sin city 2005... yes i vote sin city for #1 ... until this day.

All movies are in English with Danish subtitles, Disney and other kiddy movies excluded, those are dubbed.
Yes, those with Charlie Sheen, "Wild Thing". I know those quite well, as my father was assisant coach of the czech national softball team, and those movies were run quite a few times. "Mr. Baseball" is also popular.
Sin City was a lot of action, however it stayed true to the comic, and that I appreciate. It did not sell out to be a blockbuster hit. Rodriguez was expelled from the directors club I believe... Made Steven Spielberg happy, he was expelled some while back :D
OT: How much are Major League movies on DVD in the US? Amazon has them for about 9GBP.

Sin city is sick (in a good way) the cinematography is crazy in it. I think it is def my number one action film of the year. Blew me and my friends away when we saw it. Even my gf who has very different tastes liked it a lot.

I am guessing that you avoid theaters near college towns, no?
Just the memories... er... wait a minute... I forgot...
Anyway, the movie is easily the most original style of film I have seen come with massively famous hollywood types. Most originaly films tend to be underbudgeted. Thank god they could afford ALBA!
STEvil

No. People who go to the theaters around here usually have enough respect to know everyone else went to see the movie without distraction... and i've never actually heard of a college town before, either (never bothered to think of them existing).
Getting yells when going to one at a college town might be par for the course, but outside those "towns" you would likely find a higher amount of respect.
If I want dumb comments during a movie i'll watch it at home with a bunch of friends or at a lan party, or dig up old episodes of Mystery Science Theater.

Comic books are virtually unknown in the UK too... (Well except dennis the menace)
I Agree in full about the atmosphere, this is how comic book conversions to the big-screen should be done!

Thank god they could afford alba lolololol. she is hot, i give you that... but the character appears too childish and innocent for my tastes, even despite the fact that she works in a strip club :). Rosario Dawson who plays Gail is much more to my liking... she is F-I-N-E. try getting alba to wave a gun round and look that sexie :). But yeah, off the choice @$$ and back to the film...
I came in from playing pool at the pub with a few friends at maybe 1:30am to find my brother watching it on DVD. i watched the last half hour or so (which i usually dont do, it can ruin the film when you get to watch it properly) and i absolutely loved it, was gripped by it. it was so good that i decided i was gonna watch it from the start back upto where i saw it from when i came in. it was past 3am by the time i climbed into bed, and i got about 4 hours sleep before getting up to go work a 12 hour shift, and i dont regret it one bit.
Micket Rourke puts in an excellent performance, in my opinion the toughest character ever commited to film. And im also glad Elijah Wood broke free from his typecasting, actually playing something other than a mild-mannered aspiring youngster, and probably ended up being more disturbing than the girl from The Ring. Hell, even Bruce Willis manages some serious, emotive acting. Overall i think its destined to become a classic, and all the critics that are saying otherwise deserve a bullet.
