I did post them in the other place before this thread :toast:
Yes, they will be for crunching. Ive done a lot of numbers and it costs me 3X more to operate single core chips for the cause then to go this route. Ill be running Win2K3 Server on these btw.
My avg size PSU is 550-700 watts. So you can imagine the cost of my electric bill. Avg is $156 a month, up from $82!!

Sry, didnt check. Thats too bad to hear about your electric bill. Thats one of my probs here, or I'd be in the 30's (ranking).

Well they jacked the rates up on us over here. It really pisses me off. In 6 weeks ive had my Verizon FIOS internet placed on hold, all i need to complete the installation is the damn UPS and router, but my city got into a permit fit with verizon because time warner pitched a :banana::banana::banana::banana:. Imagine, 2 meg upload, 15 meg download for $49/mo! Everyone is jumping ship to verizon.. Then the damn rates went up on power... $40 of it if definately from the crunchers, then the AC bill to keep stuff cool adds $. Its just cheaper to go dual core, they run cooler and i think they will pump out more units.

Keep talking, I'm listening. I've got to do something 'bout my power bill. It is friggin' unreal and the worst isn't even here yet! Dual core... large initial outlay, lower costs over time. But how much lower? Enough to recover the initial outlay? Over how long?
( any friggin' excuse to buy the latest and greatest, for me )
Unfortunately, I just got hit with some massive automotive expenses today, so any plan for newer systems will have to wait. However, it is good to think of the future... :)

"The other place" is the "For Sale" section, which you can't see untill you reach 100 postings... Check this ;) (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60294)

But he already has them in the "For Sale" forum, hence the thread name, the other place they are talking about is the private d20l lounge...which i havent been let into yet for some reason :(

Well the initial expense for me is lower, then perhaps for you? Since ive got a plentora of 939 boards, dual cores plop right into them. So, i can take several rigs offline. I ordered a 4200+ and a 4400+. The 4200 is the cheapest and holds 512K of cache per core. The 4400+ is a little more expensive, holding 1 meg a piece for each core. I want to see how each reacts before i start buying more ( cache per core )
Will the initial investiment return right away? Hell no it wont, there's basically $1200 for 2 CPU's, BUT thats 2 more i can take offline, saving my ears and heat dump.. Anything to lower power as well. I can get away with 400 watt PSUs on those rigs to boot. That should drop $52.65 off my bill each month for starters not to mention, quadruple my output. I dont think any of us are in this for the money, lol.

I'm wondering if it will be a straight up doubling of output...
ie >> an X2 at 2800 mHz putting out exactly twice the output of say a 2800 mHz Clawhammer or Venice. If so, I might have to see what kind of price I can get for them to perhaps enable me to get an X2. At any rate, gonna wait for prices to fall some. Got so many PSUs running here, it'd be nice to go with less. Power bill is a mofo!

Yeah. I wanted to get your Xeons MOFO, but Mr_slinky had a great offer for the set :)
So I will be running a nice dual xeon server it seems, I need to start crunching again. Now I only have a terrible P4 1.8ghz doing so...
