View Full Version : Compaq/Xeon Problems

I have finally got the first of my Xeon Servers crunching F@H, end of the week I should have all 7 of them (33.6GHz).
I have set em up to run as a service, my problem is i cant seem to get it to run @ more than 25% of total processing power.
The servers are ML530g2's with 2 Xeons 2.4GHz and 5Gb of ram in each, running with hyper threading and memory mirroring/spare etc.
Anyone got any ideas how i can get a process to max out 1 of the processors?
@ the mo i'm running 4 F@H's to get total 100% usage (This is to slow tho)
cheers for the help

it looks like you've already got it figured out.
f@h isn't multithreaded so you have to run 2 clients on a dual processor machine. on dual intel chips with hyperthreading, you'd have to run 4 clients.

u sure?
so basicaly a hyperthreaded chip will never use 100% for a single process? so say.. 3dmark on a 2.4ghz will actualy only use 1.2ghz?
nar that cant be right????

I'm not sure what your os is, but if you crtl, alt, delete once and go to processes, you can right click on the FahCore_65.exe and set its affinity (which is giving it more priority). Give this a shot and see if it doesn't raise the percentage. If those Xeons are duals, best you'll get out of each process is 50%. If they're quads, 25%.

i have tried setting the cpu affinity, still no joy.
i know henti over ot O-CuK has had probs the same as this, but dint manage to find a soulution. i think he has non hyperthreded chips tho.
Anyone else running F@H on a Xeon system? cant work out of its a chip prob or a problem with the way the compaq system software has been setup.

felix88 & yourself are correct. HT requires 2 instances of F@H per CPU...so w/ dual HT'n CPU's, you'll need 4 instances to get both CPU's @ 100%. Its not very slow when you're submitting 4 WU's at around the same time! You rock man, 33.6GHz! lol :)

yeah check out my stats (http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage?q=O-CuK-Scope), should be doing about 20ish WU's a day by the weekend.
we still need a ton more the get close to 2cpu, just come from there forums.. they think they have us wipped..
get out the GHz!!!!!!
Looking very good! Thanks once again for helping us fold...that's some MHz you have there ;)
