getting someone's IP adress?

I've got a problem. I have someone who is constantly fiddling around on my server and posting BS in the shoutbox, the forum etc.

Now I can ban him from the forum but not on IP. Now I want to disable him from even contacting the site. As I do not run the server (rented webspace) I cannot acces the logs and try to find out what his IP adres is. I do know the guy, he's a jackass from my class.....

But he just won't give it up after repeated warnings. Is there a way to find out what IP he has? I know what his ISP is but I'm trying to find out his IP so I can block him from the server (server admin said if I send him the IP adress he'll block it from the server)

So, can you help me? :)

if you have his email account report him to his ISP, you will need proof but with some luck you might be able to get him suspended.

If you can access the router, try to match up time with his posts.

If im not mistaking Email headers list the senders IP address. try to get him to email you. their are programs out their that can sniff IPs out of emails.

send him a picture over msn then netstat! git em good

dude have him post on your forum. you can check his ip.

At least on AIM when you send a picture over, it's a direct connection, giving the IP over netstat. Not sure about MSN though

thanks folks i'll try it. and no I can't view his IP on the board because it's a freeware version and kinda nuterd :s Upgrading to invision power board in a week or something but yhea ....


I'll try the net stat thingy :) BTW anyone know a program that can sniff the IP out of a e-mail if this doesn't work?

With certain settings even hotmail shows the IP, just search the internet. I forgot what settings those are.

MSN allows people to set if they want direct p2p connection when sending files.. so if tat idiot set it off... too bad netstat won't work.....

u should really change ur forums... showing IP of posts should be a standard features for admin

what if he has a dynamic IP ?
would you then ban a ip-range ?
