I haven't had much time to look around and see if this is a common problem or not. Hope someone can help!

Thanks.
Mike

no.. you can get that error even on a mega stable system.. it's a matter of program error.

hoodiejuggalo, if you can, try to boot from Safe mode w/ Networking support and go into windows and perform the windows update. It works sometimes..

Also try to find out where the "update.exe" is coming from.. Search it on the search option in windows. Also go into registry editor and do a search there. You'll find the locations of it and what other programs are associated with. It's sort of like playing detective game...

Ok, went to safe mode and did Windows Update, it updated itself to version 6 and downloaded some security patches and software, but wouldn't install the patches, only the software (like a Media Player update). I'll do it again and get a screenshot of it but I don't know what's going on, never had this happen before. Oh yeah, then after I do the update and stuff, it wont let me do anything in the start menu. (ie, when you goto any folder, and then move the mouse over to click something, it just immediately closes) usually I have to end explorer and start it again, or just restart, then all is dandy.

i take it you didn't have this problem with the same machine.. right?

Sounds like your computer is infected with spyware and adaware.

Try running programs like AdawareSE, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Microsoft Anti-spyware.

These programs may or may not remove the adaware out of your system but at least it will help you to find where they might be at. Will have to perform search through the registry and remove them. You'll have to search multiple times on a same infected file because they plant it in many different file directories. Try to remove them in Safe mode... it's more effective that way.

For virus removal, I use GhostBusters from Antiylabs. Some virus may not get removed so manual removal maybe necessary.

I've had this problem on my Win2k installation from day 1, always happens when I do certain things (such as a certain level change in a game, or use a specific filter with specific settings in photoshop). It probably isn't a virus since I got that same identical error (for different application though) before I even had the net on there. It also did it underclocked. Just a bug woth the 875 chipset, is my guess. It has happened on every system I have used with the 875 (with one exception).

Aight, to be on the safe side I'll try a few spyware and adware things. Good to know at least I'm not the only one who's had this problem. Thanks for the responses guys!
