I'm sorry, but no one cares about the A+ certification except computer illiterate people. ("A+? he must be good") It barely helps, if at all, in getting a job because the stuff on it is really basic.

Yeah I agree, it's not very hard either. I could've taken it when I was 15. The OS part is the harder part because its all the annoyingly useless DOS and windows stuff. The exam is really easy to do and doesn't count for much. Then again, alot of certs nowadays don't count for much. :D

Congratulations! :toast:
Consider looking into Cisco certs when you can. Cisco engineers rake in some pretty big bucks. ;)

I was, I took it like 6-7 years ago. No preparation, no studying, and it was easy.
Details from old OSes? You don't remember that stuff from your apple II days? I gues it might be hard if you havn't been involved with computer related things all of your life.

Considering total_assault was born in 1989, and a lot of forum members are still in their early-to-mid teens, they skipped right passed the Apple II and IIe of yesteryear.

I'll refrain from a flam battle here. But no need to brag about how long you have been working with computers, especialy the reference about apple II's which is not part of A+ Cert.

My apple II had dos (Or some derivitive) on it. I figured that's as far back as they would go with the test, at least when I took it it was.
None of that is really important though, I just felt I needed to state why I was qualified to take and pass the test. The message is that the A+ test doesn't help in getting a good job.

Well, I took mine 2 years ago. It wasn't that hard, and I scored something like 825. I've looked into
Cisco CCDA and CCNA courses that are more challenging, I'm going to try to get certs for both though.
MCSE and Cisco is all they care about down here.

A+ certs never expire, once you have them they stay there, for life.

well since I know a lot of people taking it right now my whole class... The teacher lets us take it about 3 people a day. So far the questions vary one person got a lot of pcmia questions.. I personally got some about removing hardware, then putting it back and what would happen with the driver then. And about 10-15 questions on SCSI many about SCSI ids, connectors etc. You do have to still study i/o's and irqs, even though i only had 1 irq question and no i/o questions. This is only the hardware part i still have to take the OS part.

Im 18 and I finish my ccna in a month. You learn ALOT its good and not as hard as one might think. From my freinds who already have it i can say, the money is good. A+ is by no means hard, althought there is alot of pointless crap out have to rember about stupid things like lazer printers. :stick: Best of luck on whatever you choose to do with your future. :toast:

The prep for the OS test goes all the way back to 95, in some form or another. I believe it was boot order, file security, and a few other things. i've read the book 2 or 3 times, just never went and tested. And no I don't remember Apple II. My first comp was bought 5 years ago. Although I had to program mom's old vic 20 so I could play games, but thats neither here nor there.
Congrats Total!!! Just take your certs and build upon them, they will serve you well.
