View Full Version : Anyone else had a bad experience with ATITool?

Hi guys,

I used to use ATITool's 'Find Max Core' and 'Find Max Mem' features (although I use RivaTuner to set the final clocks and do final 3DMark stability / artifact tests.)

I really like the program and it's a nice quick way of finding out what the chips are capable of, especially when voltmodding (ie set volts, leave ATITool for a few mins, note max clock, increase voltage, leave ATITool for a few minutes, note max clock etc etc).

Now, I was playing around, gradually increasing the core voltage (I'm watercooled, so pushed the core as fasr as 1.70v) and hit 'Find Max Clock'. The instant I did this, I got a (predominantly white) garbled display.

Quick reset, STILL there!

Switch PC off, leave for a few minutes, still a problem.

In the end, I uninstalled the card, ATITool and all drivers. Plugged the card back in and reinstalled drivers.

It was then OK.

Any ideas as to what went wrong?

If the screen went garbled after the core got pushed up to extremes by ATITool, then I'd be inclined to think it was too much voltage / too high core. BUT it happened as soon as I pressed the 'Find Max Core' button!!

ATi tool has been known to have probles when used to find max OC to often...It does something to the core...IDK what i stopped using it it CAN KILL CARDS...I use it ONCE in the begging to see what the card can do and I only let it run for 20min no longer...it is good to do a quick OC if a customer wants it then back it down about 8MHz to make sure that it is stable...

R4xx cores don't artifact so ATItool can't be used with them. They just crash. The memory test is sort of ok, but it doesn't put a big enough load on the memory to really test it. It's great for R3xx cards though. I can leave it overnight on the find max core setting and when I wake up, it really is the max, any higher and it artifacts.
